A visit to the Ebenezer Methodist Chapel in The Valley will be a welcoming experience for persons familiar with the structure of the place of worship during its modern history.
Inside the church, which dates back to around 1813, there are now structural improvements in progress which will soon accommodate a larger congregation. An attractive wooden balcony is currently in an advanced stage of construction – extending from over the main doorway to the centre of the building with access steps to the east and west areas.
According to one estimate, the new area is likely to provide seating accommodation for an additional two hundred persons. This will substantially relieve the current congestion on the ground floor when there is a large attendance.
The new structure is coming full circle with part of the historic period of the church when there was a balcony over the same area of the sanctuary. It was however destroyed when a fire broke out in the church building.
The seating arrangement in the church has been partly reorganised as the overhead expansion work progresses.
