A new social group has emerged in Anguilla adding to the various community activities on the island. The grouping, of former students of the University of the West Indies, is called The “UWI Alumni Association” and the grateful members are being referred to as “Proud Pelicans”.

A number of them were at the courtyard of Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School on Saturday, November 12, for “UWI Vibez”. It was an evening of games, music, food and other forms of fun.

The attendees included former and current public servants and other persons in the private sector.

On entering the courtyard, the UWI Alumni members signed membership forms entitled “Show your Pelican Pride through your UWIAA membership”.

Membership in the association allows the past UWI students to keep in touch with classmates; share professional and academic expertise with current students through E-mentorship; use a UWI Visa Card at the lowest interest rates and support the University of the West Indies; get Pelican Perks discounts at business places across the Caribbean; participate in events, webinars and Pelican talks as well as in other activities.

The membership forms require the former UWI students to state the campus they attended the degree they obtained and the year of graduation. The UWI has campuses at Mona, Jamaica, Cave Hill, Barbados and St. Augustine, Trinidad. In addition, there are a number of Open Campuses in various Caribbean islands including Anguilla.
