Unveiling of “End Polio Now” Sculpture

A massive sculpture, calling for an end to polio, was formally unveiled on Wednesday, November 2, on the grounds of the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport. It has been erected in full view of arriving passengers.
The impressive and original sculpture was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Anguilla and was initially announced at the first Anguilla Sculpture Symposium held on the island in November last year, the first of its kind in the Caribbean. The sculpture was carved from native Anguilla stone by Alexandra Harley, MRBS whose decades of long dedication to the cause of eradicating the scourge of polio, has brought that campaign to the very brink of success.
The Rotary Club of Anguilla was commended for its polio awareness by Acting Governor, Perin Bradley, and Acting Chief Minister and Minister of Social Development, Mr. Evans McNiel Rogers. They both underscored the importance of polio eradication and its significance to the health and wellbeing of Anguillians and other nationals throughout the world.

The ceremony was chaired by the President of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, Mrs. Genefa Fedee, who also delivered the opening remarks. The welcome was given by Mr. Walter J. Bayer ll, Director of the first Anguilla Sculpture Symposium Ltd.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Anguilla, Rotarian Seymour Hodge. During the event, Mr. Hodge presented a cheque of US$2,500 to the District Governor, Robert Leger, to assist with hurricane relief efforts in Haiti.
