The Adrian T. Hazell Primary School, in South Hill, observed its 50th anniversary of existence, at its present location on Friday, September 19. There was a special anniversary assembly chaired by former principal Ms. Alison Hughes. The theme for the entire year of celebrations is: “Celebrating 50 years: building on past achievements, honouring our legacy”.

The Principal, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton, delivered welcome remarks to Education Officials, parents, past teachers and students who shared in the momentous occasion. Teacher Dorothy Hazell, wife of the late Mr. Adrian T. Hazell, gave a brief history of the school. Congratulatory remarks were given by Mrs. Rhonda Connor, Chief Education Officer and past student and teacher of the school.

The staff rendered a fitting song entitled ‘Thank you Lord for ‘fifty’ years’. Teacher Electra Carty-Buddle thanked all the persons and businesses who contributed to the day’s activities. The highlights of the occasion saw the launch of the school’s website and the unveiling of new signage.
The website was created by Live Communications and the overview was presented by Ms. Tahirah Banks and her team. The signage was designed by Mr. Colin Hazell, son of the late Mr. Adrian T. Hazell, and produced by Mr. Andy Brown and his team at HiTek Signs and Designs.

To climax the ceremony fifty students released 50 balloons: 48 golden balloons and two blue, in honour of the two past principals – the late Mr. Adrian T. Hazell (who served from 1966-1978) and the late Mrs. Josephine Hodge (who served from 1998-2001). The staff and pupils are grateful to the Management of the Air and Sea Port Authority for granting permission for the release of the balloons.

The students were treated to lunch and dessert compliments of the school, ably assisted by community partners and parents. They were entertained during the lunch hour by Mr. Daryl Connor (Mr.Decent), a past student.

The staff and students wish to express profound gratitude to all who assisted in making the day a ‘golden’ one.
