Myron Lloyd is an employee at Cap Juluca Resort, and a member of a boat-racing family at North Hill where the Satellite, an A-class boat, now holds the Champion of Champions title. It won that title on Sunday, August 14, following the championship race at Sandy Ground.

“I am proud of Satellite because it is a North Hill boat – and it is very dear to my heart because it is family boat,” Lloyd boasted. “I have a brother, Cameron Lloyd, the forward man; a son, Leandro Lloyd; and two nephews Zachery Richardson and Dominic Richardson who are all in boat-racing. That’s close to home. That’s blood.”

He went on: “Boat-racing was always in our family. The Decision was owned by Uncle Lionel; the former Satellite was owned by Emile Lloyd and family in North Hill. The Real Deal is also a family boat and so the North Hill boats are all owned by a big family.
“There is still a lot of rejoicing in North Hill. We have Champion of Champions and Boat of the Year. You couldn’t ask for anything more. It will be the same thing next year: Boat of the Year, Champion of Champions.”

Lloyd said Nick Gumbs was the main builder of the boats. “Those boats – Satellite and Real Deal – are family and community boats. We all chip in and do what we have to do.”

Satellite and Real Deal won three races each – or six out of the eight races – during the August week of boat-racing for the 2016 Anguilla Summer Festival.

What does Myron Lloyd attribute to the success of the boats?

“Hard work and dedication,” he replied. “Those guys working the boats are relentless. They are always trying new things. They trim and they cut them. It took a lot of work and dedication to have those boats where they are at today.”

Mr. Myron Lloyd
