Friday 12 August, 2016. There was much fanfare in the parking lot area of Albert Lake’s Supermarket as The Rotary Club of Anguilla held the drawing of the “Own a piece of Anguilla Raffle”. The Raffle of 1/2 acre land was the major fundraiser for the Rotary Club’s Blood Bank Project. The festive atmosphere was complimented by the wonderful music of Exodus band.
After a brief opening ceremony, Mr. Albert Lake, dipped into the box of tickets and pulled the ticket of the lucky winner. Mr. Peyton Meilhac of Old Ta emerged the winner. Mr. Meilhac was speechless on the phone when he was notified that his ticket had been drawn. He soon arrived at the venue and joined in the celebrations.
The Rotary Club’s Blood Bank project has a total value of approximately US$100,000.00 and is to provide life-saving equipment for the Princess Alexandria Hospital. The Club undertook the challenge to raise US$50,000.00 in phase 1 and to partner with the Rotary Foundation and other clubs in Rotary District 7020 in Phase 2 to complete implementation of the project. The Rotary Club of Anguilla is pleased to announce that it has surpassed the target and is now in the process of implementing phase 2 of the project – engaging the Rotary Foundation and Rotary District 7020.
During the ceremony the Rotary Club took the opportunity to express their gratitude to the many persons and organizations that assisted them in achieving this goal, notably Mr. Albert Lake, for his generous contribution of the land, persons in and out of Anguilla who purchased tickets or provided donations, to the media who assisted with the promotion and the numerous persons and Rotarians who assisted with the ticket sales.
