Mrs. Janice Irene Carty, formerly of North Hill, but who resided at South Valley, was the third Anguillian woman who was laid to rest several days ago.
The wife of well-known building contractor, Mr. Jeffrey Carty, of South Valley, and mother of four daughters, Mrs. Carty was born on May 12, 1958 and died on July 3, 2016. The Service of Thanksgiving was held at the Bethel Methodist Church at South Hill on Saturday, July 23, followed by interment at the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in The Valley.
The officiating Ministers were Reverend Dr. Wycherley Gumbs, Rev. Lindsay Richardson and Rev. Velina Petit.
In delivering words of comfort, Rev. Dr. Gumbs said the grieving families were all linked together by blood and by faith, and had come to a historic place of worship for the Service of Thanksgiving. He continued: “Job asked a question that I must answer and you have to answer for yourself –‘If a person dies, shall he live again?’ All cultures and civilisations have answered that differently, but Christians answer it specifically with an emphatic yes. That which is mortal shall put on immortality; that which is flesh shall decay, but will be given a new body – not a physical body – but a spiritual body and will join the Church Triumphant.”
The preacher was Rev. Lindsay Richardson whose sermon was based on the death and resurrection of Lazarus. It was an intriguing, dramatic and imaginative sermon which commanded the attention of the listeners and brought much hope and comfort to them – and in particular the bereaved.
