Students of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (A.L.H.C.S) can now combat the harsh tropical heat and remain hydrated, free of cost to them, thanks to the wonderful donation of 8 water fountains to the School by Viceroy Anguilla. The handover occurred on June 14th at Campus A.
Mr. Alwyn Richardson, who was a key component in the acquisition of the water fountains, said the idea came about after a conversation with Mrs. Jacqueline Jeffery Connor who indicated the need for water fountains at the school. He said: “As one who has passed through this education system many years ago, my pledge and commitment is fostering partnerships between the public and private sector”. He further noted: “Providing students with access to safe and free drinking water, throughout the school day, is one strategy that can be used to create an environment that supports health and learning. Access to clean water is not only a basic need of mankind, but a necessity to sustain all forms of life in the world”.
The school currently has approximately 1200 students divided between two campuses. Chief Education Officer, Rhonda Connor, commended and thanked Viceroy for their kind contribution. She said: “Thanks much to Viceroy. It [the donation] is an indication that you appreciate education and how important it is in the development of a country – and specifically how important water is to the health and wellbeing of our students”.
Representatives from Viceroy present were Mr. Landon Phillips, Director of Security & Loss Prevention, and Ms. Dorla Hodge, Director of Human Resources. Mr. Phillips said the company was delighted to participate in the initiative. He proclaimed: “Viceroy has long been a supporter of our community, and our school system, and we continue to do so and want to continue to be a part of the lives of the people of the community”. He further noted: “There are no resources more valuable than these students. Anguilla’s young people will become the leaders of tomorrow, and so to be able to contribute to those leaders of tomorrow makes us very proud”.
Principal of the ALHCS, Mrs. Joyce Stewart, thanked Viceroy for its kind contribution. She noted that water is essential, and to be able to now provide free water for the students is an achievement unmatched, especially in such a warm climate. She hopes that more and more corporate enterprises will come on board and further support the school in whatever way they can.
The water fountains will be evenly distributed across the two main campuses, Campus A and B.
