The Eleos Centre-A Family Support Ministry of the Methodist Church completed a successful five day programme for teenage girls from April 4 to 8. Ten girls aged 10 to 12 completed the programme.
According to the organizers the programme could accommodate 12 students and was developed using a similar model to the one developed for teenage Girls by visionary Ms Dawne Richardson, of North Hill, Anguilla. The content was modified to make it age appropriate.
The programme is built around Christian values as a means of enhancing inner beauty; positive self-esteem and self-development. Through these, girls will be inspired to discover their uniqueness be equipped with coping skills to deal with real life issues thus refining and enhancing their outer beauty and social graces. These topics were delivered using creative and interactive methods as well as art and craft by facilitators Ms Civilla Kentish, Ms Janelle Connor and Ms Angelina Carty, plus one volunteer from a previous teenage programme, Ms Anouska Hughes. Most of the activities were conducted on the site at the Centre and two other locations facilitated by The Governor’s Office and the Anguilla Great House.
The feedback from both the participants and their parents was very encouraging. Many of the girls were voicing their desire to return next year!
The organizers expresses thanks to the following who supported the programme. Gus Bakery North Side, Limin supermarket South Hill, Nvie boutique Tomac Plaza, Lady Dees Bridal boutique, Gender Affairs Unit, J.W. Proctors Supermarket and Ms Dawne Richardson.
