The Department of Health Protection through its Environmental Health Unit is task with the power to issue Food Premises Licenses. The Public Health Food and Hygiene Regulations state that “if any person carries on any food business on premises which have not been licensed…. (he/she) is guilty of an offence… and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $1,250.00.
The Department of Health Protection would also like to inform all food establishment owners or managers that the Food Hygiene Regulations require that all Food Premises Licenses MUST be displayed in a conspicuous place on the premises. Similarly all food businesses or premises intending to engage in the sale of food MUST register their interest in writing to the Department of Health Protection. The Food and Hygiene Regulations state that if any person carries on any food business in premises which have not been licensed in accordance with the provisions of Section 2, he/she is guilty of an offence. Therefore all food premises owners or operators MUST ensure that they are inspected annually and display a Food Premises Licensed in a conspicuous place on their premises in order to comply with the regulations.
Food premises that were operational last year and do not intend to operate in 2016, must communicate such intensions in writing to the Department of Health Protection on or before the Monday 29th February 2016. Failure to do so shall result in the owner or operator having to pay the relevant licence fee, once premises is deemed operational, suitable and conforms to the requirements of the Food Hygiene Regulations.
Food premises owners that have had their annual inspection and have not paid or collected their Food Premises Licence should do so by visiting the Environmental Health Unit of the Department of Health Protection within seven 7 Days of conforming to the requirements.
The Department of Health Protection would like to thank all managers or persons who have control or management of a food business in advance for their cooperation in maintaining and improving food safety on Anguilla. The possession of the necessary licenses and permits are key components in any food safety management system which indicates the operators’ are approved suppliers to store, prepare, handle and distribute safe and wholesome food to the consuming public.
