The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the results of the recently held theme competitions for celebrations marking the 49th and 50th Anniversary of the Anguilla Revolution and Anguilla Day 2016 and 2017 respectively.
There were nine entries submitted in the 49th category, and seven in the 50th category.

The theme for 2016 is “Cherishing Past Contributions, Fostering New Commitments, Charting Anguilla’s Course at 49.” The winning entry was submitted by Tracelyn Hamilton of Cedar Village, Anguilla.

The theme for 2017 is “Celebrating Fifty Years since the Revolution; Transforming, Empowering and Building our Nation.” The winning entry was submitted by Joya A. Hodge of Island Harbour, Anguilla.

Each winning received a cheque of EC$500.00 which was handed over by Hon. Cora Richardson-Hodge. Minister Richardson-Hodge alluded to some of the plans for 50th anniversary celebrations, “One of the signature events for the celebrations marking Anguilla Day 2017 will be the publication of a 50th Anniversary Commemorative Magazine”. Anguilla Day 2017 will be a day of great fanfare. “A full slate of activities will also showcase the 50th Anniversary Parade and celebrations at the James Ronald Webster Park on Tuesday May 30th, 2017. The James Ronald Webster Park will be ablaze with colour and pageantry, and will be a venue where you will come in the morning and stay all day until it is over. As a result of this intensive programme of activities on Anguilla Day 2017, the annual Around the Island Boat Race will take place the following day, Wednesday May 31st, 2017. In keeping with what was done in 2007, consideration will be given to making that day a public holiday as well”, she said.

The Ministry expressed thanks to all persons who participated in the theme competitions and congratulated the winners for their successful entries. The winning themes will be displayed at venues across the public and private sectors in the weeks and months leading up to Anguilla Day 2017.
