The Dream Of Owning A Business Became A Reality For Young People

The Anguilla Get Set Entrepreneurial Programme (GET SET) officially recognized a total of twenty eight young entrepreneurs have undertook training under the programme. At a ceremony, held at Da Vida’s on November 25th, 2015, seven of the twenty eight entrepreneurs were identified to receive funding from the programme.

These entrepreneurs are:
Shanicia V. Richardson ( owner of Golden Egg Farm),
Ravi Lloyd (owner of Surf Anguilla);
Keanu Belle ( owner of Evergreen);
Melissa Hamm ( owner of Artsy Crafters);
Melisse M. Jennings ( owner of Event in a Box);
Twyla K. Richardson- Thomas and Latoya Scaborough (owners of Confetti Dusk).

Speakers at the ceremony were Director of the Department of Youth and Culture, Mr. Bren Romney; Mr. John Roach, consultant for the Anguilla Get Set Programme and Chief Youth Development Officer in the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Dominica). In his presentation , Mr. Romney congratulated the young entrepreneurs for completing the tedious training and contributing to the programme’s success. He alluded to the programmes continuation for years to come.

Mr. John Roach presented a Partnership Plaque to Mr. Bren Romney as a symbol of affirmation of the partnership between the Dominica Youth Business Trust and the Department of Youth and Culture (Anguilla). In congratulating the entrepreneurs he stated, “My dear entrepreneurs, consider yourselves very fortunate to be the first beneficiaries of this timely social and economic intervention in the history of Anguilla. The success, sustainability and further development of this initiative, will be determined by your actions. I urge the others to make a concerted effort to finalize your business plans in order to join this elite group.

Other young aspiring entrepreneurs will be closely monitoring your success in order to decide whether to join the programme”. Mr. Roach is also in Anguilla, on behalf of the Youth Business International (YBI) network, to conduct a Due Diligence assessment of the Anguilla Get Set Programme. The Due Diligence will determine the Get Set programme’s prospects of becoming a member of YBI, a globally recognized and prestigious youth entrepreneurship network.
Certificates were given to all trainers, mentors and entrepreneurs. During their testimonials, the entrepreneurs encouraged more young persons to make use of the opportunity and join the programme. Funding for the programme is be managed and distributed by the Anguilla Development Board upon the advice of the Get Set Credit Committee.
