dyslexia workshop 2Over the past week, from November 16th – 20th, 2015, sixteen teachers – from across the island – varying from primary school to high school participated in an intensive course on working with the Dyslexic learner. This workshop was offered by the Department of Education through the Caribbean Dyslexia Centre of Barbados and was facilitated by Mrs. Sandra Cadogan, an Assessment Officer from the Centre.
The main objective of the workshop was to build teachers’ awareness of Dyslexia. Other objectives included giving the teachers a clear understanding of how to identify the Dyslexic learner in the classroom, recognizing their abilities and planning for their instruction. Throughout the training, teachers were grounded in the theoretical aspect of research governing Dyslexic learners and were given the opportunity to teach Reading lessons geared specifically to the Dyslexic learner.
The course ended with the distribution of certificates.
