Students of the Anguilla Community College Bar Operations class participated in the 5th Annual Caribbean Rum and Beer Festival in St. Maarten 7th November 2015. There was also representation from St. Lucia, Grenada, Suriname and host island St. Maarten. The students’ attendance was partially sponsored by Tropical Distributors of Anguilla. This was an excellent opportunity for students to be exposed to mixology practices which ACC has been selected to have as its specialization from the OECS Network of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Training and Education (NETHTE) Project. In addition, students had an opportunity to interact with some of the Caribbean’s best mixologists and culinarians and attended master classes during the festival.
This event was a showcase of the different rums and beers that are available around the Caribbean. The event also included a Bartender Competition. Students got the opportunity to sample different rums and beer and also setup a display and sampling station using different rums and created cocktails for sampling. One of the judges commented on how well balanced and tasty the students’ drinks were. The festival’s organizers were very pleased with the ACC’s attendance and have already invited ACC to participate in next year’s event.
ACC appreciates the generous donation from Tropical Distributors and would like to thank the management and staff for their commitment to education and training.
