His retirement was announced at the Chamber’s Annual General Meeting on Tuesday this week at theAnguillaCommunity College.

Current President,KeithleyLake, who lauded Mr. Benjamin for his dedication to the Chamber, said Benjamin was very instrumental in his involvement in the organisation. He noted that Mr. Benjamin had been appointed to the acting position of a Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, for theNevisand Montserrat Circuits, and offered best wishes to him.

Mr. Lake was grateful to Mr. Benjamin, and to Arlene Ross-Daisley, who has returned to her homeland. He thanked them for their tireless efforts in attending to the business of the Chamber. Mr. Lake presented a glass carving to Mr. Benjamin, on behalf of the Board of Directors, for 26 years of valuable expertise as Director and Vice President of the Chamber.

Replying, Mr. Benjamin, who leavesAnguillathis weekend to assume his top judicial appointment, said it had been a pleasure serving the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. “I have been serving since 1984, but I became a Director from 1987,” he stated. “I was Director and President twice, and was happy when Mr. Lake joined the Chamber as I had someone to hand over to who can do an excellent job. I wish to thank everybody for the opportunity to serve. To me, service is a pleasure. I have been called upon to serve somewhere else.”

He said he was appointed to serve in Nevis andMontserrat, by the Chief Justice and the Legal and Judicial Services Commission, from this month to August 31 to help clear up a backlog of cases.

Mr. Benjamin was given a standing ovation.
