On Thursday 18th June, ANGELC presented a cheque of twenty five thousand EC dollars to the Calypso Sub-Committee.

CEO of Anglec, Mr David Gumbs expressed delight in keeping the Arts alive. “This year we hope to have two calypso tents and I think bringing some excitement and enthusiasm to the Calypso show, making it more comprehensive and getting the Calypsonains out will hopefully go a long way in helping us promote our image here at Anglec as we do in many cases donating to various community initiatives,” he commented.

Also cementing Anglec’s image as good corporate citizen, Public Relations Officer for the Company Ivan Connor stated, “Calypso is something ANGLEC sees as its own, it’s one of the parts of culture that management takes pride in.”

“Anglec remains committed to serving the community better and it’s not just in the supply of power; it’s in the initiatives like this we aligned ourselves, so that people find a wholesome outlet to enjoy,” he said.

And Chairman of the Anguilla Summer Festival Mr John Benjamin QC said it’s always a pleasure that an Anguillian Company like Anglec sees it fit to contribute to the original form of Emancipation.

“Calypso was the only way the slaves and our great grandfathers could have expressed their freedom-through calypso-and the art form also links us back to our origin – Africa. So ANGLEC is in keeping with the trends as it has done will their innovations by contributing to our culture,” Benjamin concluded.

Chairman of the Calypso Sub-committee Mr Courtney Morton also expressed thanks to ANGLEC for coming on board once again.

He said there will be two calypso tents on July 11th and 25th, as this is an exciting time of the year when the public looks forward to hearing and seeing the calysonians perform.

Mr Morton said there will also be an official launch of Calypso at Viceroy later this month.

Calyspo semi-finals is set for Saturday, 18th July at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Center.

The calypso show is one of the highly anticipated and biggest shows during the Anguilla Summer Festival.
