Central Christian School’s Annual Open Day and Anguilla Day Celebration, held on May 28-29th, was opened to the general public. The principal, staff and teachers showcased the school by displaying the curriculum and various aspects of what is being taught at the institution.
Teachers and students were dressed in their Anguilla colours on the 29th. Added to the celebration were handicrafts depicting Anguilla’s culture, made by students.
Central Christian School uses the Abeka Curriculum which is Bible based and the government curriculum. The two curriculums combined are used primarily in the grades 3, 5 and 6 classes because students have to be prepared for the Test of Standards Examination.
Our Pre to Primary school students are exposed to the Abeka curriculum. It is practical and comprehensive for young teachers in the profession as well as the experienced veterans. There is structure and freedom to bring your own expression and creativity to the classroom; hence we are able to efficiently integrate the government curriculum into our Abeka program.
Our role as teachers and educators has changed over the years. As educators we understand that we have a very important role in teaching our students how to process massive amount of information now available to us. We understand that developing these skills is a critical part of education.
Children need to develop character including behavior, attitude and values to face this challenging world. The Abeka curriculum is so effective, that it develops traits such as confidence, integrity, justice, empathy and ethics, all of which are important in reinforcing the development of students’ character.
Our textbooks and support materials are empowering. This enables parents and teachers to focus on their children – with extra challenges for the high achievers and provide special help for the students who struggle academically.
Our teachers are aware of the need to engage their students by ensuring that they understand very clearly the purpose and real life application of the skills being taught at Central Christian School.
We as educators also need to have the time to develop knowledge, skills and character whilst also teaching our students how to learn. Our teachers are exposed to ongoing training in the Abeka program, workshops and otherwise which better equips them for the classroom.
The 4Cs are evident in our Abeka program: creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration. These are essential for absorbing knowledge and for work performance.
The Abeka curriculum works. We are proud and pleased with our students’ academic performance internally, in Test of Standards and the CPEA examinations.
We appreciate our teachers for their professionalism and dedication to the task of teaching our children. Our students must be commended for their efforts, enthusiasm and persistence with learning.
The parents’ ongoing support of their children’s education must be applauded as well.
Our goal and commitment here at Central Christian School is to continually evaluate what we do and how we do it. We want to ensure that we are providing the best possible educational opportunities for all our students.
