Digicel recently officially held a press conference to introduce the 2015 Digicel Kickstart Clinics Anguilla which will see Anguilla’s 30 top youth footballers being put through their paces by coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation.
The Digicel Kickstart Clinics programme is now in its eighth year and is being hosted by coaches from the Chelsea FC Foundation for the third year.
The Clinics are designed to develop Anguilla’s aspiring young footballers through intense two-day training sessions.
During the Clinics, the Chelsea coaches will be taking the boys through a programme which will test various aspects of their game including their speed, skill, agility and technical ability as well as life skills such as hard work and discipline. At the end of each Clinic, three boys will be selected to attend the one-week Digicel Academy which will be held later this year.
Digicel Group Sponsorship Manager, Marilyn Allen, said; “The Digicel Kickstart Clinics have no doubt produced top-class footballing talent over the years as is seen by many players who have been awarded football scholarships or gone on to play for their national teams. The Digicel Kickstart Clinics not only develop the players’ physical talents but also encourage them to achieve their full potential off the field – which is in line with the goal of building a total player.”
According to Honourable Haydn Hughes, Minister of Tourism, “On behalf of the government of Anguilla, we would like to applaud Digicel, the Anguilla Football Association and the Chelsea Coaches for being able to share experiences, techniques and discipline with our youth footballers in Anguilla.”
The Anguilla Football Association welcomed the coaches to Anguilla and highlighted their continuous support to youth football, specifically the Digicel Kickstart programme this year and in the years to come.
Digicel Anguilla CEO, Rochus Schreiber, expressed his excitement when he said; “Without a doubt Anguilla has produced, and continues to produce, some of the best footballers – as is evident with so many of them playing in the top leagues around the world. Digicel is happy to support these aspiring young players as they embark on a journey to becoming the best that they can be – both on and off the field. Our partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation is ensuring that they receive the best coaching available and we hope the boys will not only train hard, but have fun doing so.”
Chelsea FC Foundation’s Senior International Football Development Officer, David Monk, said; “For the past three years, there has been tremendous development in the level of talent we have seen and we are excited to once again train the region’s best youth footballers – employing the techniques we use in the Chelsea FC Youth programme.
“Being a part of the Clinics is a great opportunity for the thousands of aspiring young footballers to better understand the game of football and develop their skills – both on and off the field. I encourage all those in attendance in each country to give it your all and enjoy this wonderful opportunity,” continued Monk.
