ABC Flower and Garden Show A Success

Though smaller than in previous years, The Anguilla Beautification Club (ABC) was once again able to plan and execute a very successful Flower and Garden Show under the theme ‘Anguilla’s Garden Life’.

In addition to the judging of various arrangements entered for competition, several other categories of gardens were also judged. There was the Primary Schools’ Miniature Gardens Competition, the Schools’ Art Competition, the Best Home Garden Competition and the Best Vegetable Garden Competition. The presentation of awards to winners in these categories was held on Wednesday 7th March 2012.

Central Christian School was the winner in the Schools’ Miniature Garden Competition with Adrian T Hazell coming in second and Orealia Kelly and Valley Primary tied in third place. Central Christian won a vegetable garden – compliments of the Agriculture Department – plus a framed photograph of their exhibit. Adrian Hazell Primary won a bougainvillea plant and a framed photo of their exhibit and Orealia Kelly and Valley Primary Schools each won a framed photograph of their exhibits.

In the Art Display (Secondary School) category, first place went to Canita Ruan who won a mobile phone with $50 credit, compliments Digicel, and a cheque to purchase art supplies. Second place was won by Marla Hughes who received a Digicel mobile phone  with $50 credit. Karissa Proctor came in the third and received a cheque for purchasing art supplies.

 

In the Best Home Garden Competition, Meridith Gumbs won first prize – a hammock. Inspector Allan Coppin, the second place winner, received a ceramic flower pot and Stephan Richard a beautiful flowering bougainvillea for the third place position.

 

This year the organising committee decided to introduce a Best Vegetable Garden Competition and was pleased with the responses.  Wining the first place title was Nathaniel Hodge who received a ceramic pot and a blue ribbon. Second place went to Bonita Klemn who won a ceramic pot and red ribbon and Andre Benjamin came in third, winning a watering can and white ribbon.

The ABC wishes to extend thanks to all who participated in any way, thus helping to make the 13 Annual Anguilla Flower and Garden Show a success. Congratulations to all the winners and to all who worked so hard in their gardens. The results are truly amazing!
