In observation of ‘Fun Day’, and in anticipation of the national pre-school sports day later this month (March), the James Ronald Webster (JRW) Early Childhood Centre held a mini sports day, in collaboration with two other pre-schools (Island Harbour Christian Pre-School and LIC Rainbow Pre-School), on Friday 6th March on the grounds of the Agriculture Department in The Valley. (A First Aid volunteer from the Anguilla Red Cross was present in the event of any accidents.)

According to Delia Shields, Principal of the JRW Early Childhood Centre, “… We are thinking today to have a collaborative effort [with] other pre-schools… so that they can come, have their own practice session and we can meet and greet… and the kids can get to know each other. At our school we feel that we are a unit, and the unit is not just our pre-school but it transcends to other schools because it is one Anguilla… That is what we want a better Anguilla… Therefore if we work together, play together, we can grow together.”
The practice session highlighted the skills of the children and helped to identify which ones are better at the different sporting activities, especially the more multi-skilled activities. The need for further practice sessions with the little ones was also evident due to their limited attention span and physical developmental stage. The teachers are planning to have more practice with them to make the national sports day a meaningful event.
