The Anguilla National Female Football Team demonstrated its competitive prowess and skill when its members sent its competitor, the Tortola Football Team, off the field with double nils in the two games.

The first game was played on Saturday evening, February 21, when the score was 4 – nil in favour of Anguilla; and in the second game on Sunday evening, February 22, the score was 3 – nil in favour of Anguilla.
The scorers in the first match were Melesa Anderson, Jaynelle Lake, Coleen Johnson and Melissa Carty. The scorers in the second match were Coleen Johnson, Clardeena Richardson and Melesa Anderson.

Meanwhile, Mr Raymond Guishard, President of the Anguilla Football Association, said that a male football team from Tortola will be in Anguilla this weekend to play a warm-up match against the Anguilla National Male Football Team.

“We are getting ready for our big match to be played on the 29th of March, here in Anguilla, and the team we will be up against will be Nicaragua,” Guishard told The Anguillian. “Our males are now training, and we want the public to come out. With that support, we will be able to create an upset against Nicaragua and then move on to the next round.”

That warm-up match against Tortola is a FIFA-sponsored match, according to Mr Guishard. While plans for that event, and other future FIFA-supported matches, were being made, the Football Association undertook to erect a costly concrete-block fence around the perimeter of the football field.
The Association is financing that work from a budget of US$75,000, Mr Guishard disclosed. The work is part of a plan to upgrade the standard and facilities of the Football Stadium and to improve security. The Association’s President stressed that the fence was not an attempt to keep out the public, whose involvement is needed to provide encouragement and support for Anguilla’s football players.
