Wednesday 4th February saw the HOPE Centre in East End being the grateful recipient of US$250.00 – a gift donated by From Within Dance’ group (FWD).
The HOPE Centre, a community based project, was founded by Mrs Cora Richardson Hodge. It came out of an expressed need by the community members for an after-school learning centre. Fully volunteer-operated, it is run by a 6-man board headed by Pastor Gareth Hodge, while the daily operations are managed by Josette Duncan.
With a present roll of 48, classes are offered from primary to CXC level. Subjects include Mathematics, English, Reading, Computer and ‘EDPM’ (Electronic Data Preparation Management). A homework programme is also available.
The Centre is engaged in other community initiatives such as the AXA Care Food Bank, feeding programmes for the elderly, Christmas treats for children and the giving of educational supplies to the Morris Vanterpool Primary School.
Miss Amber Woodley, Executive Director of FWD, a dance troupe of over 50 dancers, was accompanied by her Dance Captain, Miss Jovoncia Proctor. They were proud to identify with and make a contribution to a worthy community-based project.
Amber gives credence for the initiative to her Artistic Director, Ms Nichola MacDonald. Funds were raised from a Christmas show held in December 2014, specifically for charity. HOPE Centre was the first recipient. The FWD wishes to thank the Anguillian public for responding to the gesture so positively and plans for the initiative to be part of future recitals.
