With forty-three years of policing of the island, the Royal Anguilla Police Force commenced a week of commemorative activities on Sunday, January 25, under the triple theme: “Ready to Protect; Proud to be of Service; Relentless in our pursuit of Safety and Justice”.

Police Week was launched with an Anniversary Service, at the Central Baptist Church at Rey Hill, attended by all ranks of the Anguilla Police Force and their counterparts – the VKS from St Maarten. The event was witnessed by officials from the Governor’s Office and the Government, members of the various political groupings and representatives of the Judiciary.

Central Baptist Church Senior Pastor, Cecil Richardson, delivered the sermon. He spoke about the importance of members of the community respecting authority – in Anguilla – including the Police, whose responsibility is to keep the peace and enforce the law. He called on them to be obedient to the law; to assist the lawmen with the necessary information that would solve crime on the island; and to understand that Police Officers are human beings, like themselves, and therefore in need of assistance in carrying out the functions of the law and protecting the Anguillian society.
Police Week included such activities; as radio addresses, a domino competition; a spelling competition at the Orealia Kelly Primary School; an Open House programme involving school children; a Gospel Concert at St Mary’s Anglican Church; visits to charitable organisations; a senior citizens’ luncheon; a bingo competition with a jackpot of US$4,300; a back-in-time dance; a kiddies’ jamboree; and the climaxing event, the Police Dinner & Ball at Flavours Restaurant, La Vue, on Saturday, January 31.
