At a public meeting at East End on Saturday, January 17, Mr Jerome Roberts, the Anguilla United Movement’s candidate for District 2, outlined some of the AUM’s plans for 2015-2020 as follows:
• Construction of phase 1 of the Adrian T Hazell Primary School shortly – and the continued maintenance of all public schools.
• Construction of the Anguilla Community College for which the Government has signed a loan for some EC$8 million.
• Addressing in 2016 the delayed Valley Main Road.
• Port development. The Blowing Point Ferry Terminal, the Deep Water Harbour at Corito and the Airport are high on the AUM’s agenda for the period 2015-20.
• Early Childhood Education will be high on the AUM’s agenda.
• Construction of a new Fire Hall and Control Tower Building.
• Support for such programmes as the Job Link Up and Youth Escape; the new GETSET programme soon to be launched; and other entrepreneurial programmes at various centres on the island.
• Work towards the completion of the Indoor Basketball Stadium in The Valley; a Track and Field complex in The Farrington and upgrades to various playing fields throughout the island.
• Diversify the economy through exploring the 200 nautical miles of fishing waters north of Anguilla, with the help of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
• Encouraging and supporting local farmers to grow more with the assistance of the Department of Agriculture.
• Work closely with the Royal Anguilla Police Force and equipping and training officers.
