On Sunday January 11th 2015, the Central Baptist Church of Rey Hill, pastored by Reverend Doctor Cecil Richardson and Pastor Dwayne Adams, stopped to honour and admonish a wide-cross section of Anguilla’s men in a special service. That Sunday was set aside as ‘Men’s Sunday.’ All the men and boys of the church, specially invited male guests and other visitors, crowded the church’s auditorium. Additionally, all the men who are vying for political office in the upcoming 2015 General Elections were invited and they attended in their full numbers. Full recognition was given to each candidate.

The sermon entitled “Act Like a Man” (1 Corinthians 16:13) was ably presented by Pastor Dwayne Adams who addressed both the men of the church and visitors. He acknowledged that in light of a shortage of upright male role models, in a world of temptations directed at men and the reputation of some ‘bad men,’ it was not easy being a man in this world.

Pastor Adams admonished all men to be watchful over themselves, their families, the church and the nation at large. He advised them to be prayerful and to seek discernment from God especially in matters of decision-making. The fact was also stressed that God designed men and women to be different hence men are to “Act Like Men.” He further stressed that men should be respectful, responsible, good providers and faithful protectors of the home and the nation.

Finally, the men were reminded not to abandon the Christian faith and to be strong in the face of temptation.

After the conclusion of the service, all the men who are vying for political office accompanied the pastors in a photo shoot within the church’s auditorium.
A positive spirit of togetherness, brotherhood and comradery filled the air as these men of the various political factions jovially adjusted themselves for the photo. It would be Anguilla’s greatest joy to witness that same spirit (demonstrated in the photo) being perpetuated throughout the Anguillian community especially throughout this election season.
