ippMr Carl Thomas, a well-known social worker and videographer, has come up with a novel way of showing caring love for senior citizens residing at two of the island’s homes.

Working in conjunction with the services of two beauty salons, he initiated cosmetic treatment for the residents at the Rosewood Centre, at Sandy Hill, where he serves as a volunteer, and the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home, outside the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Explaining his work, Mr Thomas told The Anguillian: “October was officially the Month of the Elderly and I decided to take the initiative to ask two beauty salons to come on board with a project that I had conceptualised: that is, going to the two homes and beautifying the ladies as well as seeing about the men.

“Monday (November 3) was at the Rosewood Centre and the salon which visited there was Hair or Nails Beauty Salon. On Tuesday (November 4) was the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home and the visiting salon was Unbeweaveable Divas. They combed the ladies’ hair and manicured their finger nails, among other things, to make them look wonderful. The men at the Rosewood Centre were given haircuts and shaved faces; but the barber was not at the Miriam Gumbs Home.”

The former Probation Officer in the Anguilla public service added: “It was my initiative. I just decided to do it. Sometimes such persons can be down and lonely, but by doing their hair and nails you can lift them up and put smiles on their faces.”

According to Thomas, the supervisory personnel at both homes were grateful and appreciative of the cosmetic service afforded the residents.
