Saturday 27 October saw the launch of a WALL OF ART at the Anguilla Public Library. Several months ago the Department of Library Services was approached with the idea of the Wall of Art as a donation to the people of Anguilla from the late Mother Weme Castor. We were told then that alternative sites were being looked at as possible ‘homes’ for this gift but right away we determined that the Anguilla Public Library was the best location for this Wall of Art.
We kept in touch with the one doing the groundwork, Mrs Weber Taylor, and after several months of planning we were able to realize the launch of the idea.
We thank the late Mother Weme for her foresight and love for Anguilla to have bequeathed these paintings to the people of Anguilla. We thank her surviving family for fulfilling her wish. This Wall of Art immediately gives the Library a kind of gallery feel, and we would like to challenge our local artists to view this as a start. We have lots more wall space and we would be delighted to receive similar donations as a means of providing for posterity your works as well as a means of further beautifying the walls of the Library.
This initiative provides yet another good reason for persons to visit the Anguilla Public Library.
