Ms Jade Reymond, LIME Anguilla’s Marketing Manager, said the company was proud to be the sponsor of the current Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an initiative of the Anguilla Cancer Society.

She made the statement on Monday this week during the presentation of a symbolic cheque for EC$13,441, or about US$5,000, to Mrs Jennifer Gumbs, the Cancer Society’s President.

“LIME is proud to be the platinum sponsor this year of the entire activities,” Ms Reymond continued. “Our sponsorship entails just about US$5,000 which will go towards a number of different initiatives that the society has outlined. This is another initiative of our Lime for Life Campaign. We started this earlier in the year and it was brought about as a means of LIME being more a part of the community in terms of financial support or otherwise.”

Ms Jennifer Gumbs thanked LIME for its generous contribution. “This will go a long way in promoting breast cancer awareness in Anguilla,” she stated. “It will go towards trinkets, mammograms, the breast cancer awareness walk, and a billboard.”

The Cancer Society President was pleased that last year her organisation had achieved its goal of providing 100 mammograms for women who were not financially able to pay the cost. The service was provided at a reduced cost of US$100 through Hughes Medical Centre in collaboration with a doctor in Concordia, St Martin. Mrs Gumbs said she was looking forward to a number of women, 40 years and under, taking advantage of the opportunity to be screened for breast cancer.

A breast cancer awareness walk will commence at 4.30 on Friday afternoon, October 24, at the Gazebo on the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium. It will proceed to the roundabout at the Edwin Wallace Rey Drive, down that road, across the the North Hill Road, up the Reverend C L Carty Drive to the Red Cross building in The Valley Road and back to the grounds of the Scouts and Guides Ruthwill Auditorium.
