Mr Tim Reynolds, owner of Ani Villas and Ani Art Academy, expressed delight over the event, and the participation of the various runners.

“Well, carnival is all about boat races [and other events] and there are a lot of runners on the island. It seems that a foot race should be part of this. It is such a beautiful island, and it is small enough that you can run from one end of the island to the other,” Mr Reynolds commented.

He said he had requested Maduki Brooks, a well-known runner, to organise to race. “I asked him what the fastest time was that someone can run across the island. He said he didn’t know of anyone who did it, and it was decided that there should be a relay race so that more people can be involved – and it is a lot of fun,” Mr Reynolds told The Anguillian.
The New Jersey investor in Anguilla, who is a former marathon runner, added: “Running is a great sport and this is a great place to run.”

In an email to the Ani Relay Race participants, the operators of Ani Villas and Ani Art Academy wrote in part the following on behalf of Mr Reynolds:

“Thanks so much for participating in this year’s relay race. We hope all of you had a great time. We really appreciate everyone’s cooperation and enthusiasm throughout the day.

“Our hope is that this race can continue to grow, keeping both the competitive and fun spirit of the event. We are counting on your return next year and hoping that you can help us spread the word to other groups and teams on the island.

“Congratulations to the Lions, our repeat champions. You really set the bar high with under 7 minutes per mile. You have the rest of us set on training to give you some stiffer competition next year. Congratulations also to Black Gold – winner of the Co-ed Division.”

Below are the result of the performance of the teams:
