CARNIVAL 40 OFFICIALLY OPENS IN ANGUILLA

This week Thursday has seen the official opening of the Anguilla Summer Festival at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre.

The ceremony included addresses by Permanent Secretary, Social Development, Mrs Chanelle Petty Barrett, Governor Christina Scott, Commissioner of Police, Mr Rudolph Proctor, the introduction of the various competitors and a fireworks display.

The programme for the main events is as follows:
Thursday, July 31: The LIME sponsored Soca-Monarch competition;Friday, August 1: International Night; Saturday, August 2: the South Valley Street Fair; Band Class and Bandorama at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre; Sunday, August 3: Heineken-sponsored warm-up boat race at Sandy Ground; Prince & Princess Pageant Show and Junior Calypso Show; Monday, August 4: Jouvert; Caribbean Beach Party (Sandy Ground); and the LIME-sponsored A & B class boat race (Sandy Ground); Tuesday, August 5: Class A boat race (Island Harbour); and the Scotiabank-sponsored Mr & Mrs Teenage Pageant; Wednesday, August 6: A class boat race (Sandy Ground); and the Female and Senior Calypso Monarch Competition; Thursday, August 7: the LIME-sponsored A & B class boat race (Meads Bay); and the Miss Anguilla Pageant; Friday, August 8: Grand Parade of Troupes; Saturday, August 9: Valley Street Fair; and the 18th Annual LIME-sponsored Leeward Islands Calypso Monarch Competition; and Sunday, August 10: the Champion of Champions boat race (Sandy Ground).

It is hoped that everyone will have a safe and enjoyable period of merriment.
