On Saturday, May 24, the vicinity of the People’s Market was the scene of a crowded Valley Street Festival sponsored by the Anguilla Tourist Board, the Department of Youth and Culture, the Scouts and Guides and the Farmers’ Association.
The event was timed to coincide with the pre-Anguilla Day programme of activities, and featured displays of arts and crafts including clothing some of which showcased the national colours of Anguilla; paintings, ornaments and various other items of craft. Agricultural produce, culinary delicacies, other exhibits and live entertainment, also formed major parts of the day-long street festival.
The Valley Street Festival is held occasionally on the island particularly during special events. It was conceived by the Anguilla Tourist Board as a means of giving vendors an opportunity to showcase their products and services as well as aspects of the culture of the island. The road-side event has proven to be a successful undertaking and an attraction to visitors.
