During the Easter break, students from various schools across the island experienced a dynamic week of hands-on learning in the language of French, at the Omololu International School. French has always played a powerful global role in history, culture, fashion, cuisine and art and the OIS is delighted to incorporate this rich heritage into their program offering. The French Easter Camp served as a welcome jumpstart for the introduction of French as a subject of study incorporated into the OIS curriculum starting in April.
During the four day program, children were introduced to concepts including the alphabet, numbers, days of the week, months of the year and the seasons. They were also taught to introduce themselves and how to ask for items at a restaurant. On the final day, the camp culminated in a field trip to Le Bon Pain in Island Harbour where participants were able to practice the skills learned. At the end of the camp, students presented with certificates of participation by the facilitator Ms. Régine Niles and Ms. Samantha Alfred-Derrick, Office Administrator at the Omololu International School.
We would like to thank the parents who supported the camp by having their children participate, the Facilitator’s Assistant Ms. Vonda Sepersaud as well as our bus driver Mr. Prentice Hughes. We are delighted that the camp was a success on many levels and OIS is now in the planning stages of their upcoming community project: The O.I.S Summer Program slated for the month of July 07th – August 1st, 2014.

Omololu International School Nurtures Creativity through Dance Choreography and Performance

Armed with skills, talents and a passion for dance, enthused dancers of OIS Dance Club staged a night of dance performances under the theme ‘We Love Gymnastics’. It was a night of tumbling, flipping, twirling and twisting. Students, parents, teachers and visitors alike came out in their numbers in support of another OIS holistic and captivating activity. The night’s activity commenced with ‘Aerial, Pike and Tuck’ gymnastic movements choreographed to music from Shakira, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry, Kim James, Beyonce Knowles, Bob Marley alongside others. We welcomed our guest performers ‘Klassique Academy of Dance’ who delivered two exhilarating performances. They thrilled the audience who yearned impatiently to see more of such innovative artistic display. Parents too were delighted to witness their precious ones creating treasured memories through rhythmic body movements which they helped to choreograph. The locomotive youthful displays translated into stories of happiness, accomplishments and dreams. The dancers gave of their best, and the activity was well received.
The activity aimed at fostering students’ creativity, proved to be an excellent tool in peaking individual interests, challenging potential, scaffolding confidence and providing an avenue for self-expression. OIS promotes international-mindedness by stimulating creative, courageous and balanced members of society. The Dance Club, alongside other holistic activities offered; provide an avenue for our students to experience a globally-oriented education.
Omololu International School firmly believes that every child is unique and full of potential and through its holistic program of academics, the arts, music, languages and sports; OIS aims to guide each child to achieve his or her personal best and grow into an open-minded, supportive, well-grounded global citizen.
