DSC_0432Efforts are being made to improve and standardise emergency radio communications across all government agencies to respond more efficiently and effectively to emergencies that may occur at any given time in Anguilla.

A workshop covering various aspects of emergency services has just been held on the island at the Teachers’ Resource Centre. It was conducted by Mr Damian Barker, Emergency Communications Officer with the Department of Disaster Management.

“Right now, we are having some basic radio communication training for personnel from several agencies including ANGLEC, the Ports Authority and the Anguilla Fire & Rescue Service,” Mr Barker said. “We are trying to standardise radio usage across the government agencies, and our partners who will be using radios in an emergency. We have some new protocols for our national emergency communication network, and we are just trying to make sure that the persons who will be using the radios are trained to the level that they are comfortable with.”
Mr Barker added that this was the first such radio emergency training in Anguilla for the year, and that there would be follow-up training sessions later on.
