The Nutrition and Health Promotion Department of the Health Authority of Anguilla launched the 3rd annual ‘Health and Wellness’ Fitness session series on Friday 7th February 2013 at 5:00 pm on the James Ronald Webster Park. In 2012, the free fitness sessions began as a response to encourage persons to lead a more active lifestyle in accordance with the National Strategic Plan for Health. According to the World Health Organization, leading a more physically active life reduces a person’s risk of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke and even depression. In a brief re-launch ceremony, the Department’s Coordinator, Mrs. Vernice Battick illustrated the need for increased physical activity in the Anguillian population given the rise of chronic non-communicable diseases in Anguilla. Ms. Cleopatra D’Auvergne, Personal Trainer, re-emphasized the importance of activity and she also encouraged persons to eat healthy.
Two trainers from last year have returned Mr. Evan “Styler” Anderson of Styler’s Fitness Centre, and Mr. Valentino ‘Hammer” Mucket, Personal Trainer. This year they will be joined by two new trainers Ms. Cleopatra D’Auvergne of IFitness AXA, and Mr. Joseph Pradel of La Severine Total Fitness to bring the total to four rotating trainers conducting these sessions. The fitness sessions will occur every 1st and 3rd Friday of each month from February to July 2014 at 5:30 pm on the Ronald Webster Park with a special finale featuring all four trainers and guest trainers on July 4th termed “Let’s Get Physical”.
The next session is scheduled for Friday 21st, February 2014. The general public is invited to attend all sessions.
