A violent robbery, in which two elderly men suffered serious injuries, as well as other such crimes, have led the Police in Anguilla to warn members of the public, especially the business community, “to secure their valuables and property during the holiday season.”
The warning was issued on Wednesday this week by Acting Police Superintendent,Emris Rogers, while reporting the violent robbery at Shoal Bay on Thursday, December 5, close to 9.30 pm. The report stated that the two men had just returned home when they met two males inside their villa armed with machetes.
The victims were attacked by the assailants who inflicted injuries and robbed them of jewellery valued over US$50,000. The victims were transported by ambulance to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The Police are appealing to anyone with useful information about the robbery to contact the Criminal Investigation Department. “The Royal Anguilla Police Force has noticed an increase in robberies throughout the island and will be taking serious measures to combat these crimes,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Police reported that during the period December 4-11, there were six thefts at Cauls Bottom, The Valley, Stoney Ground, Blowing Point and Island Harbour. The stolen items included jewellery, clothing, a car bumper and goats.
There was one attempted burglary at North Side and three burglaries at George Hill, North Side and Sandy Ground. The stolen items included various types of computer equipment, bedding material, jewellery and money.
One case of fraud was reported.
The arrests of eight persons, all males, were reported as follows: one each on a bench warrant; on suspicion of theft; for grievous bodily harm; to prevent a breach of the peace; for incest; for possession of cannabis; for giving a false name to the Police; and for being armed with an offensive weapon.
There were five traffic accidents, two involving injuries.
