AHTA PRESENTS AWARDS FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO TOURISM

The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association’s 2013 Gala Dinner, including an Awards Ceremony, was held at Viceroy Resort on Friday, December 6.

The well-attended and anticipated event was part of Tourism Week, a joint observance by the Hotel and Tourism Association and the Tourist Board. With the serving of dinner, there was also the presentation of awards, to various workers and operators, for outstanding contributions to the tourism industry, among other awardees.

One of the highly-recognised and sought-after awards – Hotelier of the Year – was won by Mr Delroy Lake, General Manager of Anacouna Hotel, who was presented with the prestigious trophy.

Mr Lake thanked Mr and Mrs Robin Ricketts, owners of the hotel, for their confidence in him over the years. During his appointment, he managed Ku Hotel at Shoal Bay which was owned by the Ricketts before they took over Anacouna Hotel. He took the opportunity to thank his staff for their hard work and support.

Mr Lake, who was re-elected President of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association, was grateful to its members, and re-affirmed his commitment to working on their behalf.

Awards were also presented to a number of persons in other categories of service as follows:
Mr Kenroy Herbert – Villa Manager of the Year;

Mrs Ruth Carty of CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa won the title Supervisor of the Year.

Employee of the Year went to Ms Latoya Scarbro of CuisinArt Resort and Ms Judith Rogers of Carimar.
Seaport Employee of the Year was awarded to Ms Condora Fleming and Airport Employee to Ms Juan Noel.

Ms Lorin Richardson of Black Orchid was named Allied Member of the Year; and the title of Restaurant of the Year was awarded to Dolce Vita.
Two persons received the Pioneer of the Year Award – Mrs Countess Rey and Mr Calvin (Bear) Rogers of Little Bay Services.

Media Personality of the Year was awarded to Mr Leroy Richardson (Brother Lee) of Kool FM 103.3.

Guests at the Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony won a number of prizes including a round-trip ticket to Puerto Rico, dinners, lunches and gift vouchers.
