Last Thursday ten people were sworn in as British citizens by HE the Governor Christina Scott.
Speaking to the new citizens Governor Scott remarked “The aim of the citizenship ceremony is to celebrate the significance of becoming a British citizen… and to remind you of the privileges and responsibilities that flow from being a British Citizen. The values that underpin British society encompass respect for law and order, freedom of speech, tolerance and respect of religious beliefs.”
All the recipients received their citizenship by virtue of a connection with Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory, either under the constitution of Anguilla or the provisions of the British Nationality Act 1981.
Following the ceremony tea was served at Government House.
