Anguilla is currently experiencing very low rainfall, but two small farmers have been able to harvest a bumper crop of watermelons on an area of Crown Land made available to them by the Department of Agriculture.
The farmers, Roosevelt Harris (Litchie) and Conrad Gumbs, were able to sustain the watermelon vines by the use of drip irrigation, a system being used by a number of persons on the island.
The watermelons were placed at Proctor’s Supermarket in The Quarter for sale.
For some time now, there have been regular imports of watermelons to meet the needs of the local market.
