The air pulsed with energy from the very first beat of steel pans and drums on Thursday, 19th March 2026, as the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) staged its annual Inter-house Sports Day. With colour, competition and community pride on full display, students, teachers and supporters converged on the James Ronald Webster Park for what proved to be a thrilling and closely contested day of athletics.
Sponsored once again by Lloyd’s Aviation Services Limited, the event began with a vibrant march from Campus A to the park. The five houses — Pink Panthers, Yellow Hornets, Purple Lions, Orange Tigers and Maroon Dragons — paraded in full colour, their presence amplified by energetic cheerleading squads whose performances ignited both team spirit and crowd excitement.
As the grounds filled with a sea of colour, the opening ceremony formally commenced under the chairmanship of Mr. Andy Matthew. Among those in attendance were Her Excellency the Governor Julia Crouch; Hon. Premier Cora Richardson-Hodge; Hon Ministers Cardigan Connor and Jose Vanterpool; Parliamentary Secretary Cordell Richardson; Senior Ministerial Advisor – Health Evans McNeil-Rogers; alongside Ministerial Assistant Jeison Bryan and other distinguished guests.
In his welcome address, Mr. Matthew underscored the enduring value of sport. “Sports creates a bond between contemporaries that lasts a lifetime. It also gives your life structure, discipline, and genuine fulfilment that few other areas provide,” he said.
Hon. Minister of Sports Cardigan Connor, reflecting on his own athletic past, spoke candidly about the emotional pull of the occasion. “As a former athlete… I almost got the same butterflies,” he remarked. Emphasising participation over victory, he added, “What matters most is that all of you… whenever you have a chance to compete and give your team a point, you are a winner.”
Ministerial Assistant Sports Jeison Bryan echoed similar sentiments, describing the day as “more than just a day of competition.” He noted that it was “a celebration of discipline, teamwork, resilience, and school pride,” urging athletes to compete with passion while upholding sportsmanship. With that, he officially declared the ALHCS Sports Day 2026 open.
The competition had already begun to take shape in the weeks leading up to the event, with road races, bicycle races and field events giving the Pink Panthers an early advantage. Yellow Hornets followed closely, while Orange Tigers and Purple Lions were locked in a tie, and Maroon Dragons trailed.
However, as the day’s track events unfolded — particularly the 200m, 400m and 800m races — the standings remained far from settled. By the afternoon, anticipation reached fever pitch during the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, with many calling it one of the most competitive sports days in recent years.
In the end, it was the Pink Panthers who claimed victory, marking their third consecutive Inter-house Sports Day title. As their victory was announced, the Pink Panthers erupted in celebration, their theme song ringing out across the park as cheerleaders delivered a final triumphant performance.

Though finishing fifth overall, the Maroon Dragons found their moment of glory as their cheerleading squad captured top honours in their division, delighting the crowd with a repeat of their winning routine.
Individual excellence was also recognised, with Tazim Frederick earning the title of Victor Ludorum and Reynah Lico crowned Victrix Ludorum. For Lico, the accolade carried added significance, marking her final appearance at the event before embarking on studies in the United States.
