The Anguilla Toastmasters Club joined sister clubs globally in celebrating the 97th Anniversary of Toastmasters International on Friday, October 22, 2021. Activities to mark this significant milestone included a radio interview on Upbeat Radio’s “Rocking the Rock”, on October 20, where members promoted the Club, and a virtual Games Night/Club Trivia – Let’s Kahoot, hosted by Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Kathia Magdeleine of St. Maarten Achievers Toastmasters Club. However, the highlight of the weekend of celebration was Toastmaster (TM) Waynika Romney’s victory in the Division E Humorous Speech Contest, held on Sunday, October 24, 2021.

TM Waynika Romney is the second member of the Club to be a triple winner of the Humorous Speech Contest – the first being DTM Susan Hodge in 2019-2020 Toastmasters year competition. After winning the local Club contest on September 25, 2021, TM Waynika went on to represent the Club at the Area 24 Contest (comprising two other clubs in St. Kitts – Sugar City and CFBC Toastmasters Clubs) on October 10, and also won at that level. Winning the Area Contest advanced her to the Division E Contest where she again emerged the winner with her 5 – 7 minutes speech entitled “They Never Tell You That”. Division E has a total of 14 Clubs (from the islands of Anguilla, Antigua, Bermuda, BVI, Montserrat, and USVI). Those 14 Clubs are divided into 4 Areas (24, 25, 26 & 27).

What’s next for TM Waynika? As winner of the Division E Contest, she will now advance to the District Contest, where she will proudly represent her Club, Area 24 and Division E, in the District 81 Humorous Speech Contest. At that level, she will be competing against all the other Division winners throughout the Caribbean, vying for the title of District 81’s Humorous Speech Champion.
