The majority of the UK-funded public sector projects in Anguilla are nearing completion, ending a period when construction in the public sector out-performed that in the private sector.
The contracts for the projects were awarded to Anguillian builders and architects who have been highly commended for their skills and workmanship.
Some of the projects, such as the Anguilla House of Assembly, the Secretariat Building housing the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Western Polyclinic, a section of the Ministry and Department of Infrastructure, an extension to the Vivien Vanterpool School at Island Harbour, repairs to The Valley Police Headquarters, repairs and extensions at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Governor’s Office, have already been completed and occupied.
Finishing work is in progress at the new Morris Vanterpool Primary School at East End; new buildings at the Adrian T. Hazell School at the corner of South Hill and Blowing Point; and extensions to The Valley Primary School. The new Valley Polyclinic and the new Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School are in an advanced stage of construction.
Construction work is yet to commence on the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal to replace the rented building there.
A total of 60 million pounds was provided by the UK Government to the Government of Anguilla. It was a humanitarian grant following the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. There have been the granting of some additional funds for some of the projects including an extension to the General Post Office for mail services.
