The Anguilla Red Cross Committee has found a novel way to raise funds for its community support work. Using part of its name, the voluntary organisation put on a ‘Red Affair’ gala dinner and dance on Saturday, June 4, at La Vue Restaurant.

According to the ticket sales, there were about eighty guests in attendance. The majority of them wore red attire in keeping with the style and requirement of the event.
Ms. Janice Isomura, who chaired the opening ceremony, said that it was a great dinner (and dance) and that it was the first time such an event was held by the Anguilla Red Cross.
Her Excellency Governor Christina Scott, Patron of the Red Cross, thanked the guests for supporting the fund-raising event and for their continued support over the years. She thought the event was a thoughtful one on the part of the Red Cross Committee.
An overview of the Anguilla Red Cross was presented by the Branch Coordinator, Ricky Rouphine. “Crisis preparedness, response and recovery are at the heart of the Anguilla Red Cross,” he stated. “We offer practical, emotional, support to individuals and communities in crisis; we are geared to respond quickly, effectively and with flexibility. Our volunteers and members demonstrate our fundamental principles and values. We work to save lives, prevent and reduce suffering and to increase the wellbeing and resilience of the people in Anguilla.”

He added that by raising funds the Red Cross Committee had been able to improve its delivery of service and programmes to the people of Anguilla.
Ms. Sandra Liddie, a school teacher, working closely with the Red Cross, presented a tribute in song to the voluntary organisation; and Ms. Sabrina Boodram, Public Relations Officer, and a very active and committed volunteer, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
Musical entertainment was provided by Rhythm and Song Band.

The sponsors of the Red Affair, as listed in the programme brochure, were: Carimar Beach Club; Malliouhana-Auberge Resort & Spa; CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa; Lady Maria Ferry Services; Altamer Resort; Essential Office Supplies; Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Straw Hat Restaurant; Calypso Charters; Couture Concepts; La Vue Restaurant; and Trans-Anguilla Airways.
