The Valley, Anguilla 10th Nov 2015: Its almost time for Anguilla’s Race Against AIDS 2015 and the organising committee is encouraging everyone to mark the date on their calendar and save it in their tablets! This year’s ‘Race’ will have a slightly different feel, even as the event continues to be organised under the theme ‘Raise Awareness, Make a Difference’.
For 2015 Anguilla’s Race Against AIDS, will for the first time, take the form of a charity run. Instead of being mainly a competitive, athletic event, the emphasis will be largely on the raison d’ etre, and the community is being encouraged to get involved more for the cause than the competition. The event is slated for Saturday 28 November 2015, once again coinciding with the opening of Tourism Week.
There will be three age categories, namely: 8yrs and under; 9 – 16 years and 17+, with three routes – one of which will be exclusively for the ‘8yrs and under’ participants. All races will begin in front of English Rose Restaurant in The Valley and participants will be asked to gather at the Anglican Gazebo for both the start and finish of the event.
Though this year’s ‘Charity Run’ will not have a competitive element, practical and fun prizes such as meal vouchers, massages, weekend stays for two and other great gifts will be given to various categories of participants. There will be a prize for the youngest participant, the oldest participant, the school with the most teachers participating, the school with the most students participating and the business/organisation with the largest team, among others. A contribution of a minimum of EC$10 per persons will be collected, and all are being asked to be charitable and support the effort to raise awareness and make a difference.
The Anguilla Race Against AIDS which started in 2003, is organised by the Optimist Club of Anguilla with the support of several community partners, including the Department of Sports and the Health Promotion Unit. The Club wishes to thank all their sponsors, supporters and participants of this national event and look forward to their continued support for 2015 and well into the future.
