Road Bay, Sandy Ground, was an all-day beehive of activity on Monday, where the Dutch Police and members of the Royal Anguilla Police Force spent a time of enjoyment and fraternity.

Dutch St. Maarten Chief of Police, Peter De Witte, told The Anguillian that his Force was observing Police Week with a series of activities and was hosting colleagues from Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, Suriname and the Netherlands. The visiting Police Officers totalled three hundred.

“It is an annual event hosted by the Dutch St. Maarten Police,” Mr. Witte said in part. “We have come here, along with our colleagues, for one day because we have very good relations and cooperation with Anguilla. We all are enjoying this island and its beautiful beaches, and we decided to come to Anguilla for our domino games. We are grateful to the people of Anguilla and our fellow police partners for their hospitality.

“It is very important for all of us to know each other, and to work together to fight crime, because crime is not stopping at the borders. This is also an opportunity for us to know each other in a different way other than at work.”

Anguilla’s Commissioner of Police, Rudolph Proctor, commented: “It is good to have our brothers and sisters from St. Maarten celebrating their Police Week with us. We are very happy as a Police Force to make them feel welcome in Anguilla. Over the years we have had a great relationship with the Dutch St. Maarten Police and it continues to this day. We worked with their representatives to make this event possible, and we are honoured to be participating in their celebration.”
