Primex Concrete Services has announced a major step toward improving Anguilla’s road infrastructure, following significant investments in both asphalt production and chip and seal technology—an approach the company believes can provide more affordable and durable solutions to the long-standing road challenges across the island.

For decades, residents have expressed frustration with the condition of dirt roads, particularly in communities where access, dust, and maintenance issues have affected daily life. In response, Primex Concrete Services has purchased and brought to Anguilla a chip and seal machine, and the company is now seeking to partner with the Government of Anguilla to expand local road construction and rehabilitation services.

In March of 2025, Principals of Primex, Jerome Richardson and Mark Jno Baptiste, met with Minister Cordell Richardson and Minister Jose Vanterpool to discuss the company’s plans to enter the road construction space. During the meeting, Primex outlined its recent acquisition and repairs to an asphalt plant located on its premises in the Brimegin area. Primex, as a result, is interested in offering cost-effective road development alternatives that could be deployed more widely across the island.

One of the highlighted solutions to secondary road dilemmas was chip-and-seal technology, a proven road-surfacing method that combines an asphalt binder and aggregate to create a durable surface at a lower cost than traditional paving. The company believes this option could allow for faster upgrades to secondary and residential roads while maximizing the use of public funds.

“These Primex investments represent a long-term commitment to Anguilla,” the company stated. “We are not only expanding our capabilities, but we are positioning the island to better take care of its own infrastructural needs locally.”

Primex Concrete Services has made what it describes as a significant financial investment in repairing the Brimegin-based asphalt plant and acquiring the chip-and-seal equipment, with the goal of strengthening local capacity and reducing reliance on external contractors.

Once operational, Anguilla can pride in both an asphalt plant and chip-and-seal technology available on island – tools that could play a critical role in maintaining and improving the road network in a more sustainable and timely manner. The chip-and- seal option is expected to be ready to roll out within four weeks, after some testing.

The company is now seeking formal support and partnership with the Government of Anguilla, offering road construction and rehabilitation services that address long-standing infrastructure challenges while providing value for money.

According to Primex, the asphalt plant is expected to be fully operational within the next three months, marking what could be a turning point in how road works are delivered locally.

As discussions continue, the initiative has the potential to open a new chapter in public-private collaboration aimed at improving road conditions and the quality of life for residents across Anguilla.

Anguillian-born technology professional Dexter Gumbs has launched Polliglot AI, an artificial intelligence-powered translation platform designed to help creators, educators, students, businesses and organisations break language barriers and reach global audiences more effectively.

Polliglot AI enables users to upload a video file, select a target language, and receive a translated video with accurate subtitles or translated audio in just a few steps. The platform supports multiple languages including English, French, Spanish, Hindi, Tamil and others, with additional languages being added as the service expands. The name is derived from the word “polyglot,” meaning a person who speaks multiple languages, reflecting the platform’s purpose of enabling communication across language barriers through artificial intelligence and global connectivity.

The platform is web-based and built on Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) infrastructure, ensuring secure storage, encrypted uploads and downloads and fast processing times. The platform also prioritizes user privacy and data protection. To access it, search www.polliglot.ai in a web browser.

A 30-day free trial is available for any of the 4 plans namely the basic, the pro, the enterprise and the pro enterprise. No hidden charges exist and users can test the platform before committing. Every plan includes AI-powered video translation, speech recognition and subtitling, cloud storage via AWS and encrypted uploads and downloads. The company offers multiple subscription tiers designed to support individual users, teams, and enterprise-level needs, with varying features and support options. Persons interested in utilising the services of Polliglot.ai can locate pricing and other information on their website.

Mr. Gumbs, who currently resides in the United States, has more than a decade of experience in information technology, cloud computing and artificial intelligence systems, primarily working with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Over the years, he has been involved in designing and supporting large-scale cloud applications and has operated an online IT training school offering professional certification courses. Mr. Gumbs believes that since Anguilla is labeled as the “home of AI”, we should maximize the label and while his creation is the beginning, he looks forward to helping other Anguillians grow and innovate in the AI realm.

Recently, Mr. Gumbs extended his work to Anguilla by providing artificial intelligence training opportunities to young Anguillians, awarding scholarships to students preparing for internationally recognised AWS certification exams. Several participants successfully completed the programme, marking an early step toward building local technical capacity in AI and cloud technologies.
Mr. Gumbs said the idea for Polliglot AI was driven by the growing demand for multilingual video content and Anguilla’s global recognition as the home of the “.ai” domain.
“Video is now the primary way people communicate online,” Gumbs said. “Polliglot AI allows Anguillians and global users alike to share their stories, businesses, and educational content with the world in multiple languages without needing expensive translation teams.”

From an Anguillian perspective, the launch of Polliglot AI represents a move toward developing practical artificial intelligence products linked to Anguilla rather than relying solely on domain name revenue. Mr. Gumbs has indicated plans to continue expanding AI education initiatives and has outlined future projects in areas such as healthcare technology and autonomous marine systems, with the long-term goal of creating technology-based employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for Anguillians.
“I want young Anguillians to see that artificial intelligence is something they can build, not just something they use,” Mr. Gumbs said. “It’s a real industry that can create jobs and allow people to stay in Anguilla.”

A new initiative is transforming the Caribbean business landscape. The Green Business Training Programme, led by Dawn P. Reid from Anguilla and Nuravni S. Sallons from Suriname, is equipping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with the tools to integrate sustainability into their operations and thrive in a rapidly evolving green economy.

Endorsed by the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC ILO), and supported by global partners including GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH) Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the programme underscores a strong commitment to sustainable business growth across the region.

The inaugural training provided the opportunity for 20 SME owners and entrepreneurs from diverse sectors and islands, including Suriname, Anguilla, Guyana, St. Lucia, Grenada and St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Participants represent industries ranging from hospitality and tourism to food processing, content creation, marketing, eco-retreats, accessories, and beauty products—each dedicated to adopt innovative green practices.

The six-week programme, which began on 29 October and runs through December, provides hands-on training designed to enhance operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and open doors to new markets. By equipping SMEs with practical tools for sustainability, the initiative demonstrates that the Caribbean can be a leader in green business innovation.

“This programme has been immensely rewarding, and engaging with such a diverse group of Caribbean SMEs has been truly inspiring. As environmental and climate issues continue to intensify, rethinking how we do business becomes essential. This course provides the insights needed to support that shift toward a more sustainable future. Networking is at the heart of this programme; it allows businesses to share opportunities, tackle challenges collectively, and thrive. Our goal is to train minimally 100 small & medium-sized enterprises in the Caribbean, and create a dynamic regional network that unlocks international sustainable opportunities” – Nuravni S. Sallons

The programme aligns closely with global developments in climate action, conservation, and biodiversity, including discussions from COP30 and other international initiatives. It emphasizes the importance for businesses to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrate sustainable practices into their core strategies.

“Climate change is very real to us within the region, from catastrophic hurricanes to extreme temperatures to flooding. Sustainability, therefore, must not be a foreign concept to our everyday life. We must equip SMEs within the Caribbean, with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies necessary to not only survive but to thrive and to take advantage of any opportunities that emerge while navigating climate change. This training will provide the tools and approaches that can support aspects of Green Business and that can be implemented within the Caribbean context. The intention is to build a community of Green SMEs within the Caribbean, through which ideas can be exchanged. It is about creating a network of support for Caribbean SMEs to become Green Businesses.” – Dawn P. Reid

Looking ahead, the programme aims to train 100 SMEs across the Caribbean and to foster a network of sustainability-driven businesses. This network will allow participants to share knowledge, collaborate on solutions, and build long-term connections that support growth and innovation.

“I didn’t expect to enjoy this course as much as I am, but it has been fantastic. The sessions are interactive, engaging, and very easy to follow. I joined a bit hesitantly, but now I’m eager to learn everything about green business and become more conscious of the processes behind all of my ideas.” – Ati Creative Studio

By bridging knowledge, leadership, and collaboration, the programme positions Caribbean businesses to not only greenify their operations but also emerge as market leaders in sustainability, inspiring a new generation of environmentally conscious entrepreneurs.

Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025 officially opened on Monday, 17th November 2025, with a press launch at Innovate Anguilla, where organisers, partners, and entrepreneurs gathered to usher in a week dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and the future of business in Anguilla. This year’s theme, “Together We Build,” set the tone for seven days of activities encouraging young and established entrepreneurs to connect, upskill, and imagine new possibilities.

The week is hosted by the Anguilla Youth Business Foundation (AYBF) and Innovate Anguilla, both of which have continued to expand their outreach and support for budding business owners. Monday morning’s launch featured remarks from AYBF representatives Waynika Romney and Demi Proctor, along with special guest speaker and venture capital investor, Andy Hunn.

Romney reiterated the purpose of the global initiative. “Global Entrepreneurship Week is an annual international week that celebrates small businesses, entrepreneurs, and innovators,” she said. “It is a week where we create activities so that these innovators have spaces to collaborate, share their business ideas, and join in activities where they can network together.”

Proctor followed with an overview of the packed schedule.

In addition to Monday’s press launch, an Entrepreneur Meet & Greet with “Art and Sip” led by Get Set entrepreneur Taffari Crawford ran concurrently, bringing together creatives and business owners in an informal networking setting. Later that evening, attention shifted to the Aurora Ballroom for the MET Talks session, where Hunn delivered The Transformative Power of AI, setting an energetic and forward-looking tone for the week.

By Wednesday, 19 November 2025, the focus turned to practical business development with a training session titled How to Best Use AI to Grow Your Business, facilitated by Cap Juluca’s training and development officer, Ameya Nagarkar. The session offered attendees hands-on insights into integrating artificial intelligence into small business operations. On Thursday, 20 November 2025, entrepreneurs returned to Innovate Anguilla for a financial literacy workshop, The Building Blocks for Financial Literacy for Business, led by facilitator Leah Hughes.

Organisers are expected to appear on Klass FM 92.9 on Friday, 21st November for a radio interview, further highlighting the purpose and progress of GEW activities. Looking ahead, the week’s most anticipated community event — the Entrepreneur Expo — will take place on Saturday, 22 November 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Innovate Anguilla. The expo is expected to feature a vibrant mix of booths, local entrepreneurs, and product showcases. The week will conclude on Sunday, 23 November 2025, with a 10:00 a.m. church service at Christian Fellowship Church, bringing the island’s celebration of innovation and entrepreneurship to a reflective close.

While the week features a range of sessions — financial literacy, arts, networking, and business development — artificial intelligence sits at the heart of this year’s discussions. Andy Hunn, who has spent the past three decades working across major technology shifts, stressed that the current AI revolution stands apart from previous waves.
His message to Anguilla was clear: the island is uniquely positioned to benefit from this global shift. “In my view this is the right time for Anguilla to engage heavily on artificial intelligence… to build the infrastructure that’s needed to support AI in country to create value,” he said. “You already own the physical embodiment of AI as the .AI domain holder… and I think this is the right place, the right time and the right people to make for a very exciting future around AI for Anguilla.”

As the Anguilla Youth Business Foundation and Innovate Anguilla continue to nurture Anguilla’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, Global Entrepreneurship Week 2025 stands as a reminder of the island’s growing potential.

Anguilla’s real estate arena has expanded with the official launch of Trophy Properties, a new and versatile company owned by a group of US-based partners. The opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, October 12th, was marked by an atmosphere of excitement and goodwill, with government officials, tourism personnel, and real estate professionals in attendance to extend their congratulations.

Trophy’s Executive Assistant, Leana Harris, welcomed the guests, and highlighted the company’s core values of partnership and trust. “Today marks a new chapter and an exciting milestone for our company,” she said. “Our goal has always been to connect people to Anguilla to share the beauty of the island while providing exceptional service and creating lasting memories.”

“This moment represents more than just growth for our company,” she continued. “It is a celebration of teamwork, partnerships and trust.”
Partner Neil Freeman shared the story behind Trophy’s formation, recalling that fellow partner Paul Weimer had once sought to purchase a home in the Caribbean and chose Anguilla. “I introduced Paul to real estate agent Lisa Delong who sold him a wonderful house which he has renovated to a beautiful villa called ‘Peace and Happiness,’” Freeman explained.

He said he also introduced Paul to Steve Haines who does great real estate business in Anguilla. “And between Paul, Steve and Lisa and I we decided to create a real estate concept, that aligns our separate skills sets, and now we have started Trophy Properties Caribbean.”
Mr. Freeman in his remarks highlighted the experiences of the individual group members. Steve Haines sold him Long Bay Villas; and the condos at Four Seasons, Anguilla as well. Lisa Delong sold all the condos at Tranquility Beach; Paul Weimer sold Cuisinart (now Aurora) and he also sold Zemi Beach to the Dart Group.

According to Mr. Freeman, he was also involved in supporting the completion of Malliouhana and Zemi Beach. He also shared that, alongside Ian and Janine Edwards, he helped develop Tranquility Beach Anguilla, which has been honored by Forbes as the top boutique hotel in the Caribbean and named among the “Best of the Best” hotels in the world by TripAdvisor.
With this distinguished team behind it, Trophy Properties enters Anguilla’s real estate sector with experience and a commitment to excellence.

The evening marked a significant milestone for Anguilla’s tourism sector, coming just as the 2025–2026 tourism season gets underway.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Her Excellency the Governor Julia Crouch, Hon. Premier Cora Richardson-Hodge, Hon. Minister Shellya Rogers-Webster, and former Minister Dee-Ann Kentish-Rogers, alongside several media partners, creatives, and professionals from across the island. The event created an atmosphere of community pride and anticipation for what promises to be a new chapter in Anguilla’s luxury hospitality scene.
Originally opened in December 2016, The Manoah Boutique Hotel has long been recognised as a chic beachfront retreat on one of the island’s most iconic stretches of sand — Shoal Bay East. Known for its blend of Caribbean charm and modern sophistication, the property’s transformation brings with it a renewed sense of purpose and refinement.
The reopening introduces several exciting developments, including L’Étoile, a new fine-dining restaurant led by Consulting Chef Didier Aniès, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France — a prestigious title bestowed upon France’s most skilled craftsmen. The restaurant aims to elevate Anguilla’s culinary offerings through an artistic approach to French cuisine. Alongside L’Étoile, guests can also experience Red Sun, an innovative juice bar featuring fresh creations, delightful delicacies, and a small boutique.
Speaking to guests at the event, General Manager Etiennette Clamouze expressed gratitude and a deep personal connection to Anguilla. Clamouze went on to share her story of how her journey with The Manoah began more than a decade ago. “I discovered Anguilla 12 years ago because of The Manoah Boutique Hotel actually. I was the hotel manager in Paris and I had a friend who told me, ‘Oh, I have a friend, he bought a little something on a little island. You guys should meet.’ I came on vacation to St. Martin, took a day trip here, and fell in love with Anguilla,” she recalled.
Her speech resonated with warmth and optimism as she spoke of her return to the island to lead the hotel’s revival. “We have a beautiful beach with new cabanas. We’re going to do day-trippers and day passes, and we want to see you again.”
The Manoah’s comprehensive transformation extends beyond aesthetics. It includes a complete renewal of its product and services, from designer furniture and luxury linens to the introduction of an ultra-personalised Star Service model, curated to deliver bespoke luxury experiences for each guest. The resort has also enhanced its leisure areas, offering sophisticated poolside ambience, luxurious beach cabanas, and subtle live entertainment on select evenings.
Chef Didier Aniès, whose culinary artistry took centre stage during the evening, has collaborated with Clamouze for over two decades, tracing their professional partnership back to their time in Paris. Guests had the opportunity to savour his creations – a reflection of refined French gastronomy fused with Caribbean charm – symbolic of the hotel’s new identity.
“This is what we’re trying to present tonight,” said Clamouze. “A level of service and dining that matches the natural beauty of this island.”
As glasses clinked and conversations flowed under the soft glow of Shoal Bay’s sunset, it was clear that The Manoah Boutique Hotel had not only reopened its doors but also reignited its spirit. The event underscored the importance of continued investment in Anguilla’s tourism landscape — an industry that remains the lifeblood of the island’s economy.

The Financial Information Month (FIM) 2025 roadshow made its second stop on Wednesday, 15th October 2025, at Malliouhana Anico Insurance Company (Maico) — Anguilla’s only indigenous insurance company. Following the first stop at Liberty Credit Union, Maico’s session continued to explore this year’s theme, “From Savers to Investors,” through a distinctly Anguillian lens — one rooted in resilience, ownership, and the courage to build and protect what’s ours.

Maico reminded why every good investment must be protected. In the words of Senior Sales and Marketing Officer, Mr. Jervis Richardson, “We are here to fill in the gap so that when a catastrophe happens, we can protect your investment and you won’t have to start back from zero.”

It’s a perspective often overlooked when people hear the word “investment”. As General Manager Mr. Adrian Smith explained, many assume investment simply means putting money in the bank and earning interest. But he offered a broader — and wiser — view.
“Insurance may not necessarily come to mind when you think of insurance,” he said, “but this is actually investing. It gives you peace of mind to carry on your business. You take a relatively small portion of your income compared with the value of your assets and you transfer that risk of losing everything to someone else — that’s the insurance company. That in itself is an investment.”

Maico’s story is, in many ways, a reflection of Anguilla itself — bold, determined, and unwilling to accept “impossible” as an answer. Richardson recounted how the company began in the 1960s, not as an insurer, but as a brokerage agency representing foreign companies. When those partners pulled out, citing a lack of local viability, Maico’s founders pushed ahead anyway.

“With the true Anguillian grit,” he said proudly, “they decided to discard the recommendation of this company that they paid thousands of dollars to give them — and open the company anyway. It just goes to show the Anguillian spirit — belief in oneself regardless of the outside noise.”

This spirit of self-determination ties beautifully into the FIM theme. Anguilla’s earliest investors weren’t just saving pennies; they were building legacies. In Maico’s case, those legacies now safeguard the investments of families, businesses, and young entrepreneurs across the island.

Smith reminded listeners that many people think of risk only in terms of physical assets. “It’s a mistake that a lot of business people make,” he warned. “A liability claim can eclipse the value of your assets and savings. Once you engage in business, once you engage with people, you have to think not just about what you can see, but about the possible liabilities.”

Maico’s services range from property and vehicle insurance to employers’ and public liability — the kind of coverage that can mean the difference between recovery and ruin after an unforeseen accident. “One claim can wipe out your profits for several years,” Smith cautioned.

Richardson added that liability insurance has become even more essential in modern Anguilla. “We’re seeing a lot more lawsuits happening locally,” he said. “That wasn’t normal before. Employers have a duty to ensure a safe work environment. If an accident occurs and you’re deemed liable, you can be prosecuted. Employer’s liability insurance covers that, ensuring peace of mind for both the employer and employee.”

While Maico’s Sales and Marketing team plays a visible role, Richardson was quick to credit what he called the company’s “real marketing department” — its Claims Department. “You’re not paying for the printed paperwork that we give you at the front desk,” he said. “You’re paying for when catastrophe happens. And when it happens, we will ensure that you’re made whole in quick time.” All claims decisions are made locally, a point of pride that reinforces Maico’s commitment to Anguillians.

New recruit Ms. Saige Carter reflected on her experience as part of the team. “It’s very calm, it’s peaceful,” she said. “You meet new people and you get to help them. They leave happy knowing that they have peace of mind — that they’re covered.”

Her message to young people was simple: “Maico is very transparent. There’s no surprises, no secrets.”

As Maico is popular for auto insurance, Richardson also offered advice for young drivers: start building a driving history early. “Don’t get insurance under someone else’s name,” he urged. “When you get to 25 and don’t have your own record, your rates are still high. Build your history now, and you’ll benefit later.”

At its core, Maico’s philosophy is about more than financial security — it’s about peace of mind. Smith summarised it neatly: “Insurance is paying relatively very little to get covered for a very big amount. It’s taking the risk you have on your shoulders and transferring it to someone else.”

And as Richardson added, Maico’s local roots mean flexibility for clients, especially during the financially hectic months for customers. “Because we’re local, we understand the needs of our people. We can offer payment plans so customers remain covered, even when times are tight.”

Whether it’s property, vehicles, boats, or even motorcycles — the latter of which Maico remains the only company on the island to insure — the message remains consistent: coverage matters. “Ride safe,” Richardson reminded Anguilla’s bikers, “and remember, peace of mind is priceless.”

As Financial Information Month continues, Maico’s message fits squarely within the theme From Savers to Investors. Investing isn’t just about making money — it’s about protecting it. And in a world where storms, accidents, and uncertainty are inevitable, that protection is perhaps the most valuable investment of all.

Construction is steadily advancing at Port Nimara, Anguilla’s first dedicated superyacht marina, with the developer signaling a phase-one completion and marina opening in the first half of 2027. Site works now underway include basin excavation and marine infrastructure manufacturing as the project moves from groundbreaking into full build-out.

The development, situated on the island’s southwest coast between Belmond Cap Juluca and Altamer near Maundays Bay, broke ground in December 2023 and has since entered active construction. The master plan calls for a mixed-use waterfront anchored by a mega-yacht marina and complemented by hotel, residential and retail amenities.
The excavation of the marina basin is in progress, while Swedish marine-engineering firm SF Marina is producing the floating concrete pontoons designed to handle heavy weather and superyacht loads. The marina build is being delivered in collaboration with Consigli Construction, and several local subcontractors.

Construction Site

When phase one opens, Port Nimara is planned to offer 118 berths for yachts up to 240+ feet, alongside an on-site customs and immigration facility. The wider programme envisions a five-star hotel, 18 beachfront villas and 45 hillside residences, positioning the property as both a yachting hub and luxury resort community. The hotel and beachfront villas are slated to follow after the marina’s opening.

Port Nimara is developed by South West Harbour, Inc., a Joint Venture between TEI Inc., SF Investments, the investment and development section of the SF Group in Sweden, with the participation of Anguilla based Antillean Developments. Independent outlets including Marina World, Boat International, Superyacht Times and Megayacht News have prominently echoed the development this year.

The project has been framed as a catalyst for the local economy, with estimates of around 300-500 jobs across marina operations, hospitality and supporting services during the phased opening window. Government and industry communications have tied the marina’s timeline to a broader tourism uplift and skills demand on island.
Strategically, Port Nimara sits about 26 nautical miles from St. Barths and 11 nautical miles from St. Maarten’s international airport, strengthening Anguilla’s role on the NE Caribbean superyacht circuit and providing quick access for owners and charter guests transiting the tri-island loop.

David Mizrahi, partner of South West Harbour and executive head of Port Nimara, emphasizes on resilient marine engineering and a “sustainable luxury” brief as dredging and civil works reshape the basin. Trade releases cite heavy-duty pontoons and coastal-conditions design as central to the marina’s operating profile once open.

As works continue through 2025/2026, the soft-opening period will lead into the phase-one handover in 2027, subject to construction progress and permitting. For now, the excavators, dredgers and fabrication orders suggest momentum behind a project set to make maritime history in Anguilla. portnimara.com

Innovate Anguilla was alive with possibility on Thursday, 25th September 2025, as women entrepreneurs of every stripe — teachers, designers, artists, strategists, visionaries — gathered for a workshop that was part classroom, part family reunion, and part pep rally for women in business. The occasion? “Coaching, Connection & Collaboration: An Introduction for Women Entrepreneurs,” presented by the SheTrades Caribbean Hub in collaboration with the Gender Affairs Unit and the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACOCI).
The day opened with warm words from Ms. Kemoloy J. Murphy, representing the Gender Affairs Unit and the Ministry of Social Development and Education. She beamed as she welcomed new and familiar faces returning after the last successful session on marketing, where many had launched creative campaigns.

Ms. Murphy reminded participants that the day’s session was about much more than business tips. “Coaching at its core is about unlocking potential, and I know that after today, we’ll be unlocking some potentials,” she said with a smile. With trust, collaboration and networking in the mix, she explained, business growth and personal growth can go hand in hand.
She also revealed the winner of the very first SheTrades Caribbean Boost Her Business grant—a US$500 award designed to help entrepreneurs scale their ventures using marketing and AI tools. After a tough selection process, the honour went to Ms. Britnee Williams, who received a hearty round of applause from her peers.
The spirit of togetherness carried through the morning, with Ms. Shellecia Brooks-Johnson, speaking for ACOCI, praising the entrepreneurs’ energy. “You guys are incredible,” she said, reflecting on the entrepreneurs she has come to know. She underscored the Chamber’s role in supporting business growth and encouraged attendees to consider membership. “Together, we’re here to support, uplift, and empower each of you as you grow your businesses and navigate your entrepreneurial journeys.”
Ms. Kayanne Anderson, regional coordinator for the SheTrades Caribbean Hub, joined virtually to highlight Anguilla’s role in the wider region. “Anguilla was the first focal point that signed on to promote the SheTrades activities in the region,” she noted proudly. With SheTrades now spanning 94 countries, she explained that joining the network means becoming part of a global sisterhood. “We are willing and happy to introduce you to other women entrepreneurs from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and around the Caribbean, as we grow this family,” Anderson said.

The facilitator for the day, Janine Edwards of JanineConnects.com, needed little introduction. With over 25 years’ experience across tourism, real estate, and business development, she brought her signature energy to the session. “As women in business, we wear so many hats… But the truth is, success is not based on our own talent and our own drive and what we can do as a solo person,” she said. “The true multiplier effects and synergies emerge when we come together, we collaborate, we share, and then all the boats raise with that tide.”
Her session was anything but stiff or academic. Women introduced themselves, proudly sharing their ventures and passions, while also admitting their goals and challenges. Some voiced their personal goals, including empowering other women, embodying exactly what the SheTrades movement stands for.
Participants learned of the importance of coaching in business. A skit on coaching styles — comparing autocratic with directive — brought both laughter and lessons, as participants agreed directive coaching felt far more empowering.
Then came the Coaching Carousel Role Play, a lively exercise that split participants into groups of three. Each woman rotated through the roles of Coach, Coachee, and Observer, tackling questions about business choices, strengths and challenges, and skill development. Afterwards, the groups reunited to reflect on how it felt to sit in each role, what could be improved in real-life coaching, and how the exercise might shape their own approach to guiding and receiving guidance in business.
And just when you thought things couldn’t get more interactive, a round of entrepreneurial Bingo further elevated the session’s established liveliness. Cards prompted players to find someone who had, for example, “Started a business 2 years ago” or “Loves public speaking.” Each square wasn’t just a game but a spark for conversation, laughter, and networking.
By the time the session wrapped, it was clear this was no ordinary business seminar. It was a celebration of women daring to grow, learn, and lead together. With partnerships spanning the Gender Affairs Unit, SheTrades Caribbean Hub, and ACOCI, the morning was proof that Anguillian women entrepreneurs are not working in isolation but tapping into a web of local, regional, and global support.

Three construction students from the Anguilla Community College (ACC) are currently gaining on-site work experience at the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport as part of a collaborative internship initiative between ACC and Aecon/Kelly Construction, partners in the Anguilla Airport Redevelopment Project, Phase 3. The students are Ojeron Mussington, Chadero Kent, and Shemar Fagon.

The internship programme, which is two-phased, began on 18th August 2025 and due to end later in October/November 2025, underscores the ACC’s importance of linking education with industry to ensure that Anguilla’s workforce is equipped to meet the growing demand for skilled tradespeople. For ACC, it is an important milestone in advancing its mandate to provide students with meaningful, applied learning experiences that complement classroom instruction and strengthen their readiness for employment.

The students, who recently completed studies in ACC’s BTEC Level Two Construction Studies programme, are working under the supervision of experienced engineers and project managers, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks from site and safety protocols to technical project execution. This practical immersion helps them understand the scale and complexity of major construction projects, while also instilling discipline, teamwork, and industry best practices.

Project Manager, Mr. Jason Lamarche, expressed the companies’ pride in partnering with the ACC on this very important venture. He stated: “As part of our commitment to community engagement and skills development, Aecon Anguilla Construction, in partnership with Kelly Construction, is proud to provide internship opportunities for students from Anguilla Community College. This collaboration allows students to gain hands-on experience in a major infrastructure project, developing practical skills while contributing meaningfully to an initiative of national significance.

“Through this internship, students are not only exposed to industry best practices but also to the teamwork, safety standards, and innovation that underpin successful large-scale projects. Their involvement highlights the importance of education-industry partnerships in preparing the next generation of professionals who will carry forward Anguilla’s growth and development.”

Dean of Studies, Dr. Michelle Queeley, recently visited the site with a team of construction lecturers and the Coordinator of Adult and Continuing Education, Mrs. Charmaine Rey-Richardson, as part of their monitoring of students’ progress in the internship. In noting their satisfaction with the on-the-spot reports, Dr. Queeley noted: “We are extremely pleased with the progress that our students are making through this internship. From all accounts, they have transitioned very well and have been able to apply what was learnt in the classroom to their assigned tasks. The Anguilla Community College wishes to register its deep appreciation to AECON/Kelly Construction for affording our students this valuable opportunity at work experience, and to the ACC Board of Governors for its wholesome support of this venture.

“The partnership with Aecon and Kelly Construction not only advances ACC’s agenda for experiential learning but also raises the profile of the College as a key player in preparing a skilled and confident workforce for Anguilla. Opportunities like this affirm the value of connecting education with industry, ensuring that our students graduate ready to contribute meaningfully to national development. At the same time, such collaborations strengthen ACC’s future by demonstrating how vital industry partnerships are in expanding our reach, enriching our programmes, and ensuring that ACC remains at the forefront of shaping the island’s human capital. Thanks to all for making this happen. We aim to increase our efforts in providing many more opportunities like these to our students across the various disciplines of study.”
Kelly Construction specializes in large-scale civil projects, while Aecon, a Canadian company with many years of experience, has established itself as a leader in global infrastructure development. By partnering with ACC, both companies have shown their commitment not only to delivering world-class infrastructure but also to investing in Anguilla’s human capital.

However, in the last Press Conference held on Monday, August 25th, the Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Kyle Hodge, said that measures are being taken by the Consumer Affairs Unit to carefully monitor the pricing structure.

Mr. Hodge said that prior to the passage of the GST Reform legislation, there were separate meetings with several businesses including the hotel sector and supermarkets. He said that out of twenty-nine grocers thirteen submitted price lists. With these lists, the Consumer Affairs Unit would be undertaking some monitoring, comparing the pre-GST Reform prices with current prices of certain commodities.

Minister Hodge admitted that following the GST Reform, there were issues experienced, including sudden unexpected increases in prices in some grocery stores. He indicated that the team at the Consumer Affairs Unit is currently collecting the data and will be conducting audits to identify the cause of these increases.

During the Press Conference, Mr. Hodge referred to a report generated by the Consumer Affairs Unit, which pointed out certain responsibilities of both the merchants and the consumers: “That the hardware stores remove the GST from their prices and pass on the saving to the customers; that customers collect receipts and provide the Consumer Affairs Unit with evidence of major price increases so that these cases may be analyzed objectively.”

“All in all,” he said, “we are collecting data including pre-GST removal sales and prices and assessing the various supermarkets and restaurants to understand how the GST Reform has affected prices and sales.”

“Once enough data is collected,” the Consumer Affairs document read, “we will provide a report on our findings, and our price monitoring will be on-going to ensure all future measures are informed by sound marketplace data.”

Minister Hodge also indicated that in speaking with some consumers there were mixed views with several people feeling the relief, while others complained that they did not see any change due to the GST Reform.

“We are continuing to monitor prices,” he said, “especially as it relates to the grocery stores. The Consumer Affairs Unit report, however, clearly shows that in terms of hardware stores and construction – particularly concrete – there is a huge relief due to savings in that sector. Those persons who are engaged in construction are the ultimate beneficiaries.”

“We will pay particular attention to the grocers sector across Anguilla, especially given that there are factors of inflation and global fluctuations in prices where markets are very volatile.”

Minister Hodge noted that overall “there were no major changes expected for food items that were zero-rated back in December 2024.” He also stressed that the 9% Goods Tax implemented as of August 1st does not apply to the previously zero-rated items.

In the month of July, a seven member team from CDB was on island and began to carry out due diligence on the electricity company, which a critical responsibility on the part of the Bank for the application of the loan.

Currently, the Bank is in the third stage of the due diligence process, and the ANGLEC Board is hoping that the fourth and final stage would be completed shortly in order for the application to reach that Board of Governors Meeting in time for September or October at the latest.
The Chairman of the Board, Mr. David Carty, has announced that they have raised the tier, in the first instance, from the original plan of 8 megawatts to 12 megawatts of renewable electricity. He said the CDB has bought in to Anguilla’s vision, and because of the island’s smallness and interconnectivity, the Bank believes that Anguilla can be a model for renewable energy development and transition.

Mr. Carty was a guest on “Talk Anguilla” aired on Radio Anguilla with host Keith “Stone” Greaves on Wednesday, August 27th.
“Renewable energy is now one of the priorities of the Bank across the region,” he stated. “They just financed a huge renewable energy farm in Suriname and they hope that Anguilla can be a model for the rest of the Caribbean.

“We in Anguilla have envisaged a four-phase plan for renewable energy transition, and this is only the first phase that we are currently applying for. As long as we accomplish all of the four phases over time, Anguilla will be free of fossil fuel. And this will be great for the Bank,” Mr. Carty said.

With ANGLEC being ultimately free of the cost of purchasing fossil fuel, the cost of electricity would be expected to significantly reduce.

Officially opening their facility’s doors on June 15th, 2025, this bright venture, based on Jon Jon Road, Cauls Pond, is shaking up how Anguillians receive essential health support.

Behind this pioneering service are two women with hearts almost too big for their scrubs – Shalia Smith and Kim Proctor. Both are registered nurses who spent over a decade working in the United Kingdom, but their eyes were always set on Anguilla. “We knew we wanted to return home to give back to our community,” Shalia explained. “We sat down in our bedroom in England and eventually came up with continuity of care – bringing the hospital level of nursing into the home.”

And they wasted no time turning that dream into something tangible. They returned to Anguilla in December 2023 and by February the following year, they were already operational. As Shalia put it, “We immediately put our feet to the ground.” Since then, Healing Hands has been growing a solid reputation, not just among clients and their families, but also within the business and nursing communities.

The service was nominated for Most Promising New Business and Delivering Excellence at the 2025 Starry Night Business Awards and Gala, and Kim was recognised by the Anguilla Nurses Association under the National Nurse Recognition Programme, earning a nomination for Most Popular Nurse.

So what exactly is Healing Hands? In their own words, the service provides home care and home nursing – with emphasis on giving Anguilla’s elderly population not just health support, but dignity, connection, and relevance. “They’re still alive, they can have fun, and we love them,” Kim said.

That love and advocacy for elders is at the centre of everything Healing Hands does – from medical assistance and companionship to errand running and post-operative care. Travelling and need someone to watch your mother for a few days? Elderly relative just out of surgery? Need someone to just chat and share a cup of tea? They’ve got it all covered.

The service is a welcome complement to Anguilla’s public health system. Community aides do valuable work visiting the elderly, but their time is often limited. “That’s where we come in,” Kim explained. Sometimes, Healing Hands’ visit is less about checking vital signs and more about being present – listening, chatting and just being there.

And while business is business, Healing Hands is firmly rooted in compassion over profit. First assessments are free and residential discounts are also available. “For me, when it comes to health, it does not have a dollar amount attached,” Shalia said. “We have to bear in mind that we are mostly dealing with the elderly, and the assessment gives us an idea of the needs they have.” While not every package may suit every household budget, the team makes a point of being open to conversations.

Quality is taken seriously. All staff are either trained healthcare workers or have undergone standardised instruction via the Ministry of Health. That includes modules in patient care, documentation, food handling and dementia care. Staff must also be compassionate first and foremost.

“When the assessment is conducted, we try to match our carer’s personality with that of our client,” said Shalia. “If someone is diabetic, we assign someone with experience in that area. If we don’t have someone available, Kim or myself will personally step in.” This hands-on leadership style is perhaps one of the company’s most vital ingredients.

Friends for years, Shalia and Kim are in sync—often finishing each other’s sentences and leaning on dialogue and mutual respect to make business decisions. “Most of our ideas marry quite well,” they said with a smile.

And the business continues to evolve. One new arm of Healing Hands is Conscious Cuisine – a growing initiative focused on meal prep. With both Kim and Shalia trained in nutrition and dietetics, they’ve crafted menus tailored to people with dietary restrictions or non-communicable diseases. For now, the meals are focused on their elderly clients, but the plan is to expand.

Their respite care is highly flexible – ranging from short-term supervision to full-time caregiving while family members travel. Services include meal prep, doctor visits, and medication support. While they mainly serve locals, they’ve also accompanied Anguillians abroad for medical care and are open to assisting visitors.

With so much already accomplished in a short time, Healing Hand’s impact is undeniably real. “I have a client who has become a staple in my life,” Shalia shared. “He tears up sometimes, asking what he did to deserve this kind of care. With us being a part of his life, he is doing so much better.”
That kind of connection is what keeps the team going, even on the hard days.

And so, the Healing Hands story continues to unfold. With care that’s clinical yet compassionate, and a team that blends heart and hustle, this little facility is proving that sometimes, the best kind of medicine isn’t found in a bottle, but in a smile, a hot meal, and someone willing to just sit with you.

Two Young Anguillian Pilots have been promoted to Captain — Honoring Legacy, Leadership, and Local Excellence.
Today, Trans Anguilla Airways celebrates a historic milestone for the island and the wider region: the promotion of two young, local pilots to the rank of Captain in Command — a powerful symbol of legacy taking flight, and the next generation of aviation leadership born and nurtured right here in Anguilla.

We proudly recognize:
– Captain Shemar Watty, grandson of our late founder George Joshua Gumbs, and son of Dorren & Bernice Watty, who took the helm of the Cessna 402C, and

– Captain Ian Richardson, son of Chris and Sandra Richardson, who was released as Captain in the BN-2 Islander.

These two pilots have trained, flown, and risen through the ranks under the mentorship and high standards of the Trans Anguilla Airways Flight Operations Team — shaped by years of hard work, discipline, and pride in their craft.

Their inaugural flights as Captains included scheduled passenger services across the northern Leeward Islands — touching down in St. Kitts, Nevis, and Antigua — completed with professionalism, confidence, and precision.

Their promotions were made official on Monday, 16th June 2025, in a proud and emotional moment, formally released to the rank of Captain by Chief Pilot Captain Rodney Webster, a son of the Anguillian soil himself closing one generation’s circle and opening a new one.

This achievement is more than a personal milestone. It is a powerful statement about community investment, generational vision, and the bright future of Caribbean aviation. It honors the legacy of pioneers like George Joshua Gumbs, and shines a spotlight on what’s possible when young people are empowered, supported, and equipped to lead.

To Captains Watty and Richardson: Your journey inspires us all. You are proof that the skies are not the limit they are just the beginning.

From the entire team at Trans Anguilla Airways, we say: Congratulations, Captains! And thank you for flying the flag of excellence and local pride.

On Friday, October 25th, Republic Bank Anguilla hosted Day 4 of the ECCB Financial Information Month Roadshow. Mr. Darren Hamilton, the Personal Banking Manager, led the event, offering insights into the bank’s mission, services, and commitment to its customers, partners, and community.
Republic Bank’s vision, as Mr. Hamilton highlighted, is to be the “Caribbean financial institution of choice” for employees, customers, and shareholders alike, prioritising excellence in customer service, social responsibility, and shareholder value. The bank aims to foster successful societies by providing “personalised, efficient, and competitively priced financial services” and implementing sound policies for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Republic Bank offers a wide range of services tailored to individual and business clients. For young savers, the bank provides deposit accounts for children under 18, allowing parents to invest in their children’s futures. On the consumer side, Republic Bank provides credit options including personal loans, unsecured loans, and mortgages with what Hamilton described as “the best rates on the island.” Investment services are also available, ensuring financial growth options for clients.
Business clients benefit from corporate and commercial loans, while the bank’s digital infrastructure enables easy and secure transactions. Republic Bank’s online banking platform was highlighted as the best in the region, offering features like wire transfers and salary payments without the need to visit the branch.

Republic Bank’s popular AAdvantage and Gold credit cards each bring unique benefits. The AAdvantage card is ideal for frequent travellers, offering American Airlines miles for each dollar spent, which can be redeemed for flights, hotel discounts, and car rentals across various airlines. The Gold card is a cashback rewards card following a 3-2-1 scheme: 3% cashback on groceries, 2% on pharmaceuticals, and 1% on all other purchases, with annual cashback paid directly into customers’ accounts.
Mr. Hamilton clarified the benefits of these cards, noting that Republic Bank’s credit cards allow for a 50-day grace period on purchases, during which no interest is charged if the balance is paid in full. “We pay you to bank with us,” he emphasised, noting that this system rewards customers for responsible spending.
The process to obtain a credit card is straightforward and takes about two to three weeks, while a debit card is automatically issued when a new account is opened. Customers can apply for a range of accounts, including savings, business, and senior accounts, with processing times of 20-30 minutes once all required documents are provided. Republic Bank caters to self-employed individuals as well, with requirements including a business licence and proof of legal self-employment.
Republic Bank actively supports small business development, having partnered with organisations such as the Rotary Club of Anguilla and the Anguilla Cancer Society through their “Power to Make a Difference” programme. Mr. Hamilton shared that the programme offers funding for community-driven projects, with plans to welcome new partners in the upcoming financial year.
The bank also offers a Green Energy Programme, supporting customers looking to purchase hybrid vehicles or install solar products. The programme aligns with Anguilla’s duty-free initiative on hybrid and electric vehicles, providing customers with reduced rates to encourage environmentally-friendly investments.

Republic Bank recognises the unique needs of senior citizens through its dedicated senior accounts, which provide reduced fees for customers aged 60 and above. This service is part of Republic Bank’s commitment to community care, catering to customers at every stage of life.
Republic Bank remains committed to fostering financial empowerment across the Caribbean. Mr. Hamilton concluded the event by encouraging attendees to take advantage of the bank’s accessible services and commitment to innovation, underscored by their tagline, “We are here to serve you.” For customers wishing to explore these services in person, the bank is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with extended hours until 4 p.m. on Fridays.
