On Monday June 10th, Mr. Stephane Zaharia, General Manager of CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa, hosted a reception in to celebrate two major accomplishments the innovative partnership between CuisinArt and the Department of Education. This partnership is supported by the owner of the resort and Johnson & Wales University. The project which has been in development for the past 18 months is designed to develop the training and education of young Anguillians in the Hospitality Industry.
The first achievement to be celebrated was the recognition of Jervonie Vanterpool, who has work diligently over the past two years in the Technical Vocation 6th Form at Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) to complete all the elements for the awarding of a vocational qualification in Cookery/Food Preparation. During the first year, Jervonie completed all the theoretical sections and practical practices at the school. For the past 6 months, he has been serving an internship at CuisinArt receiving training in the various restaurants at the resort. It is now up to the TVET Council to ensure that all the paper work and regulations are put in place to facilitate this award. Jervonie is now well on his way to becoming a world class chef.
The second accomplishment is the sponsorship of three Hospitality teachers, Karl Woodley, Kendisha Hall and LaToya Matthew, to attend a one week workshop at Johnson & Wales in North Miami. From this workshop, the teachers will become Certified Educators of the Culinary Essentials Program which has been adopted in the school for the delivery of training in the food preparation area. This program dovetails with the Caribbean Vocational Qualification Level 1 program which is offered by CXC. The program Culinary Essentials is also a recognized school subject for entry into Johnson & Wales programs in the Culinary Arts division.
An additional announcement from Mr. Zaharia demonstrates the commitment of the owner of CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa to Anguilla’s youth and to human resource development in the industry. Four scholarships to Johnson & Wales University programs in the Hospitality Sector will be made available. Two scholarships will be sponsored by CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa and two by Johnson & Wales University.
The Ministry of Social Development is pleased to support this public/private initiative and hope it will encourage other entities to follow suit. The TVET Council looks forward to working with the business community at large to build on this initiative, especially in the delivery of workplace internship for quality professional technical and vocational development.
