At the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) Area Starters seminar held in Jamaica from February 21-23 2013, fifteen participants from around the world were selected as area starters. Mr Alfred Allie Douglas were chosen. As a selected starter, it is his responsibility to ensure that athletes in Anguilla meet the international standards and that they are given every opportunity to achieve their full potential in the area of athletics.
To facilitate this process, Mr Douglas is required to plan and conduct a Starters Workshop for two days and organize a track meet which will be called The Starters Invitational. The workshop, scheduled for June 6 and 7, is intended to sharpen the skills of persons who are interested in becoming Starters. Five person attended the starters workshop namely, Rodi Richardson, Kirthly Richardson, Ian Connor, Carl Thomas and Trevor Davis.
The 1st ever annual Starters invitational meet was convened and held on Anguilla at the Ronald Webster Park on Saturday June 8, 2013.With athletes competing from the V.P.S, A.T.H.S, O.K.P.S, C.C.S, M.V.P.S, V.V.P.S, T.G.O.I and the ALHCS. The main objective of this meet falls apart of an ongoing Development process through IAAF standards in fostering officials with International ratings. It is with this back drop that all territories within our region have hands on experience, thus will recommend them to serve as officials at Olympics, World Games & or Carifita Games.
Participants Mrs Alicia Ferdinand of Canada IAAF AREA STARER, Mr Patrick Harrigan of the BVI IAAF AREA STARTER, Benny Rowe of Barbados IAAF AREA STARTER, Mr Winston Potter of the BVI and Everton Cornelius of Antigua both Technical officials. The meet had top class Officials.
Outstanding performance came from Sethreanda Williams from VPS, David Ogolo from ATHPS, Kimani Hodge from VPS, Ramel Niles from VPS, Andaysia Connor from ATHPS, Annissa Hodge Connor ALHCS (B), Brandon Blake from ALHCS (B), Aiden Hazzard from ALHCS (A), Andeason Jean and Janaro Dupie from the VPS,Jaydon Forde and Nandi Edward from the TGOI.
