Some 100 senior citizens, largely selected through churches around the island, were given a rare opportunity to tour and dine at one of Anguilla’s internationally-acclaimed resorts – Viceroy Anguilla.
The tour and luncheon, on Tuesday, May 28, hosted by Viceroy, was organised by Mr. Seymour Hodge, the Government’s Liaison Officer for the resort, assisted by Mr. Clive Smith of the Department of Social Development.
The senior citizens were welcomed to Viceroy by Ms Patricia Mew, Director of Rooms. “This is part of our community outreach programme at Viceroy Anguilla,” she told The Anguillian. “It is something that we feel we should give back to the community and so, today, we have an opportunity to open our doors to the senior citizens of Anguilla.”
Following the comprehensive tour of the property (including villas and rooms), the senior citizens were hosted at a sumptuous lunch. After that, Mr. Peron Sepersaud, Viceroy’s Anguillian Director of Operations, delivered the official welcome on behalf of the Management and Staff. “It is always great to have an opportunity to thank the persons who carried us this far. We recognise and appreciate your contribution to Anguilla and making it what it is.”
Dr. Bonnie Richardson-Lake and Ms Aurjul Wilson, Permanent Secretaries in the Ministries of Social Development and Home Affairs respectively, thanked Viceroy for its kind gesture in the run-up to the celebration of Anguilla Day. They also thanked the senior citizens for accepting the invitation.Mr. Seymour Hodge and Mr. Clive Smith (mentioned above) were pleased to have been involved in the most delightful event.Mr. Winston Harrigan, one of the senior citizens, expressed gratitude to Viceroy and all who made the event possible.
Meanwhile, the opportunity was taken by Mr.Sepersaud to announce an award to Ms. Joanne Snagg, winner of the theme for the Anguilla Day celebrations: “Past, Present and Future must Mix – Anguilla Day At 46”. She received a voucher for a one-night stay for two at Viceroy Anguilla. Ms Snagg is a Graduate Teacher at the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School.
