The Governor-designate for Anguilla, Ms. Christina Scott, is now on the island on a brief familiarisation visit and is a guest of Governor and Mrs. Alistair Harrison at Government House.
She will be having meetings with Chief Minister Hubert Hughes and other members of the Executive Council, and Members of the House of Assembly, as well as a wide range of other persons. A reception in her honour at Government House on Thursday evening was also part of the programme for her visit arranged by the Governor’s Office.
Ms. Scott arrived in Anguilla on Wednesday evening from London. She is here until Monday, May 6, when she will leave for the Cayman Islands.
Her appointment is historic in that she is the first female Governor to be appointed in Anguilla. She will succeed Governor Alistair Harrison who will be transferred to another Diplomatic Service post in July after serving in Anguilla for a period of four years.
Ms. Scott has a wide-ranging civil service career working across a range of domestic and international policies. Currently Director of the Civil Contingencies Secretariat in the Cabinet Office, she previously spent three years as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. She has also worked at HM Treasury in the Department for Transport and at the European Commission. She will be transferred to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for her appointment as Governor of Anguilla.
Ms. Scott was quoted as having said: “It is a great honour to be appointed as Governor. I very much look forward to working with the people of Anguilla and their elected representatives as they build a vibrant, successful and resilient future.”
