Well-known graphic artist and portrait photographer, Derrys Richardson, has won LIME Anguilla’s photo competition held earlier this year for the cover of its 2013-2014 Telecommunications Service Directory.
“We want to congratulate Mr. Richardson for winning the competition,” LIME’s Marketing Manager, Jade Reymond told reporters on April 18 at a ceremony marking the release of the directory to customers and other members of the public. “We wanted to put a new spin on our directory and allow our customers, as well as our photographers to play a role in the directory in different ways. One of those ways was allowing some of our top photographers to compete, as part of our Facebook competition, for the cover of our 2013-2014 Directory.
“We had about eleven participants including some Sixth Form students, and Derrys Richardson won by over two hundred “likes”on Facebook. Among the criteria were that the photograph must represent Anguilla, that if persons were in the photograph we had to get their permission to use it and that the photo had to be true to LIME’s value statement which basically implores our customers to value every moment. We think we definitely can see that portrayed in a young boy playing [in the sea] with a bucket.”
LIME Anguilla’s General Manger, Mark Romney, also joined in congratulating Richardson for being Photographer of the Year. “We were very happy with the level of enthusiasm and excitement that was generated over the social media via Facebook,” he stated. “When you look at our Services Directory, we tried to incorporate as far as possible the other pictures submitted in the competition.” He added that the number of entries in the competition showed that photography was very much alive in Anguilla and he spoke about the various scenic photos which were submitted.
In explaining his winning entry, Derrys Richardson, who holds a Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management, said he was invited to a birthday party where he took the photograph. “What amazed me was that there were two young boys throwing buckets in the air – one a blue bucket and the other a pink bucket which is now on LIME’s Service Directory,” he recalled. “They did it over and over for almost two hours, standing in the shore of the beach. I just seized the moment and freeze the frame forever so to speak and that’s how we ended up with the shot on the directory.”
In addition to winning a telephone handset, Richardson was given a write up on the first page of the directory covering his company’s business (Signature 7002 Studios) and other relevant information.
